Alicante Multi-Day Trips: Self-Drive Only
Search “multi-day tour Alicante” on a booking site and most results turn out to be a single half-day excursion with an ambitious title, because no operator runs a scheduled multi-day coach circuit that actually departs from this city. Alicante works as an airport gateway and a day-trip base, not a multi-day tour hub the way Madrid or Seville are. That is not a gap in the listings; it is simply not a product that exists here.
What actually works: a self-drive loop
A rental car is what turns two or three days into a real regional trip; DiscoverCars is worth checking against airport counter rates before you land. One version runs north along the coast through Villajoyosa’s painted fishermen’s houses and clifftop Altea, continues to Calpe’s limestone Peñón de Ifach, then cuts inland through Callosa d’en Sarrià to the Fuentes del Algar waterfalls (€5.00 entry, reservation required in July and August) and on to Guadalest, the mountain fortress entered through a tunnel cut into the rock. A shorter version stays inland entirely: the Coves del Canelobre karst caverns near Busot, then Jijona’s turrón museum, then back to Alicante. Neither route needs more than the CV-70 and AP-7, and both start and end at the same rental counter in the city.
The alternative: rail to Valencia
Travelers who would rather not drive can spend two days in Alicante, covering the castle, Tabarca and the old town, then take the Euromed line north to Valencia in about 1 hour 45 minutes for two more days around the City of Arts and Sciences and the Turia Gardens. This is a rail combination, not a packaged tour, and you book each leg and each hotel separately.
What this is not
It is not a Tabarca stay of more than one night. The island is 1,800 meters long with around 50 winter residents; a boutique overnight there is a genuinely romantic single night, not a multi-day base, and there is nothing on the island to fill a second or third day. It is also not a bus tour: Alicante’s Central Bus Station serves regional ALSA routes to towns like Guadalest and Torrevieja, not multi-day circuits.
Before you go
If a listing does promise a “3-day Alicante tour,” read what it actually includes before booking; it is very likely a day trip padded with hotel nights you arrange yourself rather than a guided multi-day product.
