Pokhara’s flat lakeside geography, short transfer times between sights, and calm-water boating make it an easier stop with children than most of Nepal’s mountain towns. Annapurna Cable Car to Sarangkot
Taking children up the gondola from Sedi Bagar to Sarangkot skips the winding mountain road entirely. The nine-minute ride glides over terraced farms and pastures and lands directly at viewpoint cafes, no queasy hairpin turns involved. Phewa Lake paddleboating to Tal Barahi
A colorful paddleboat or a traditional wooden doonga carries families across calm water to the island temple of Tal Barahi. Life jackets are legally mandatory on every boat on Phewa Lake, no exceptions for short crossings and none for children who look confident in the water; confirm every jacket is properly fastened before the boat leaves the dock.
Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave
Children tend to find the roar of Davis Falls disappearing underground more exciting than intimidating, and the spiral staircase down into Gupteshwor Cave, past stalactites and the subterranean river passage, adds a bit of adventure without real difficulty. Entry to each site runs NPR 100 for foreign visitors. Keep a close hand on younger kids near the marked railings; the limestone is coated in slick algae and the monsoon-season water level rises fast.
International Mountain Museum
Full-scale models of Himalayan villages, interactive relief maps, high-altitude expedition gear, and a section on the Yeti legend give children something to touch and climb into rather than just read about. Pony treks and lakeside cycling
Gentle pony rides run along the grassy southern lakeshore, and tandem bicycles rent along the paved Lakeside pedestrian strip, both easy half-hour outings between bigger activities.
Two things to avoid
Do not attempt the 7-to-10-hour Prithvi Highway bus journey with young children during monsoon season; landslide-related delays stack on top of an already long ride. The 25-minute Buddha Air or Yeti Airlines flight from Kathmandu is worth the fare difference. And never let a child onto any Phewa or Begnas Lake boat without a properly fastened life jacket, no matter how calm the water looks that day.
