A private car and a good guide also solve Kathmandu’s worst problem, traffic, by routing around the morning and evening rush.
The three-kingdoms day tour
The standard full-day format covers Patan in the morning, Bhaktapur over lunch and the afternoon, then finishes at Boudhanath Stupa for the sunset kora. Timing around traffic
Morning rush (9:00 to 11:00 am) and evening rush (5:00 to 7:30 pm) can double transit time between the three cities. Departing for Bhaktapur before 9:00 am, or scheduling Boudhanath for late afternoon after the worst of the gridlock clears, keeps a full-day itinerary realistic.
