Munich Attraction Tours: Plants and Palaces
Some of Munich’s best guided experiences happen on a factory floor, in a royal palace or inside a football stadium. Here is how the main ticketed tours work, what they cost and when to book them.
BMW: three different visits
BMW Welt, the showroom with its curving glass and steel roof, is free to enter. The museum across the bridge charges €17 for adults, €9 concession and €38 for a family, and takes card or mobile payment only. It is open Tuesday to Sunday. Two guided options sit on top of that. The BMW Welt tour lasts 60 minutes and costs €18 (€14 reduced). The plant tour runs for 120 minutes and about 3 km of walking, costs €24 (€20 reduced), and operates only on Monday to Friday production days. Children must be at least 6 and accompanied, and photography is not allowed on the factory floor. Pick the plant tour if you want to see cars being assembled, and choose the museum if you prefer history and concept cars. The official BMW Welt tours page lists the current slots.
The Residenz
The Residenz was home to the Wittelsbach rulers, with some 130 rooms. The Antiquarium, a barrel-vaulted Renaissance hall, is the highlight of the museum route, and the Treasury holds the royal insignia. Prices are tiered: the museum costs €10, the Treasury €10 and the combined ticket €15, with a three-site ticket including the Cuvilliés Theatre at €20. Reduced fares are €9, €9, €13 and €16, and under-18s go in free. Buy online from the Residenz website to avoid queues.
Nymphenburg Palace
The summer residence of the Bavarian kings sits in a 200-hectare park, which is free. The combination ticket covers the main palace, Amalienburg, Badenburg and the Marstallmuseum with its carriage collection. It costs €20 (€18 reduced) until 15 October, then €16 (€14 reduced) from 16 October. Under-18s are free. Allow half a day, and walk the Grand Canal if the weather is dry.
Allianz Arena and FC Bayern
The FC Bayern Erlebniswelt museum costs €12 for adults, €10 reduced and €6 for children 6 to 13. A museum plus Arena Tour ticket is €25 for adults 14 and over and €11 for children 6 to 13, and a museum plus Arena View ticket is €19. The box office is often sold out, so reserve ahead through fcbayern.com . Tour slots depend on the match calendar.
Film sets and Olympiapark
Bavaria Filmstadt in Geiselgasteig lets you climb into the submarine from Das Boot and ride Falkor from The NeverEnding Story. Its main season runs until 6 November, with opening hours of 9:00 to 18:00, so confirm tickets on the Filmstadt site . In Olympiapark, the guided Waldi and Architektur tours are the ones to look at on olympiapark.de .
Booking tips
Weekday mornings are quietest, and the plant tour only exists on weekdays. If you want a guided city introduction to link the stops together, you can browse Munich tours on GetYourGuide . For wider planning, the sightseeing guide covers towers and churches.
Verdict: the BMW plant tour at €24 is the strongest paid tour in Munich for anyone curious about how things get made. Book it first, and fit palace visits around the days it does not run.
