Krabi With Kids: Pools, Beaches and Boats
Krabi suits families, but the choice is smaller than the brochures imply. A handful of options are genuinely easy with children: a few nature stops inland, some gentle beaches, and one shallow-water boat day. Everything below has a child price or an easy access route.
Inland: warm water and a short waterfall walk
Hot Springs Waterfall, Namtok Ron Khlong Thom, has natural terraced tubs fed by a stream, with a child entry fee of ฿100 against ฿200 for adults. The warmest water is far too hot for little ones, so stay in the cooler pools lower down the stream. Emerald Pool, in Khao Phra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary, charges ฿200 for children and ฿400 for adults. Both gates take cash only and open at 08:30.
The easiest walk is at Khao Phanom Bencha National Park , where entry is ฿50 for children and ฿100 for adults. Huai To waterfall is a short stroll from the visitor centre, and its pools are cool and shaded. The rock is slippery, so choose sandals with grip.
On the sand
Phra Nang Beach and Railay West are the calmest of the Railay beaches, with soft sand and sheltered water. Remember that Railay is reached only by boat. The shared longtail from Ao Nang takes about 10 minutes and costs ฿100 per person each way, with a higher fare in the evening. Boarding means wading through calf-deep water, so pack a dry bag and have small children carried.
Closer to the hotels, Nopparat Thara beach has shallow, pine-shaded shores that are easier for toddlers than the open Ao Nang bay, and the beachfront sellers offer fresh coconut for ฿40 to ฿60.
One boat day
The Four Islands trip is the gentlest boat product in Krabi. A traditional longtail visits Koh Poda, Chicken Island and Phra Nang with short hops and snorkelling in shallow water. Longer speedboat days to Hong or Phi Phi involve more bouncing and more hours, so they suit older children better. You can look through Four Islands listings on GetYourGuide and check which operators supply child-sized life jackets. Insist that every child wears one for the whole trip.
Seasons
The monsoon runs from May to October. Boats cancel at short notice in rough seas, and jellyfish are more common, so keep the inland pools as a wet-season plan. The Krabi activities overview shows which base is best for a short stay.
Pacing
Krabi’s family days are nature days and beach days, so keep the schedule loose. One outing a day, with a long lunch and a pool or beach stop, works better than a packed list. Bring reef-safe sun cream, hats and plenty of water, since shade is limited on the beaches.
Tip: aim to reach the hot springs and Emerald Pool before 10:00, when the pools are quiet and the day is cooler for small children.
