Guided Walks and Trails near Hlabisa
Walking Around Hlabisa
Hlabisa has no village or town walking tours. Its roads have no pavements and carry livestock and fast traffic, and there is no heritage trail to follow. Walking in this area happens inside Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP) with a ranger, or on marked self-guided paths at False Bay. Prices are in rand (R).

Self-Guided Paths
- Umbhombe forest trail, Hilltop Camp: about 760 m and 10 to 30 minutes inside the camp fence. Cheetah have been reported jumping the fence, so stay alert.
- False Bay Park, iSimangaliso: the 9 km Dukandlovu loop through forest and lakeshore, and the Mpophomeni trail of 1.5 to 2 hours. Mornings are best. Hippos and crocodiles live nearby, so keep to the marked trails and stay away from the water.
Outside camp fences and False Bay, there are no self-guided bush hikes in HiP or the hills around Hlabisa, and no commercial hiking or mountain-biking routes.
Practical Notes
Wear closed shoes and neutral clothing, and carry water. Northern KwaZulu-Natal is a seasonal malaria area, so ask a travel clinic about prophylaxis, and use repellent at dusk. Drive to and from your walk in daylight, because carjacking is a risk after dark.
