Gdańsk Couple Activities, Rain or Shine
Baltic weather changes its mind several times a day, so the couples who enjoy Gdańsk most keep two plans in their pocket. Here is one list for a dry day and one for a wet one, built from things you do together rather than things you look at from a café table.
When it is dry
Climb St Mary’s tower. About 400 steps take you up through the brick tower of St Mary’s Basilica to a flat roof platform above the Main Town, with the Tricity and Gdańsk Bay laid out below. The stairs are narrow enough that you climb in single file, and the view at the top is the reward for both of you. It closes in storms and runs on a seasonal timetable, so check at the church door.
Walk Sopot’s pier out of season. The SKM reaches Sopot in about 20 minutes for about 6.50 PLN. From 1 October the wooden pier is free to walk, after a paid season that runs from 10 April to 30 September with adult tickets at 10 PLN. A cold, clear autumn afternoon out over the water, with the beach almost empty, is one of the best free dates on the coast. Hours and tariffs are on mosirsopot.pl .
Try the ropes at Kolibki. For an active couple, Kolibki Adventure Park on the Sopot-Gdynia border has a tree zipline and graded rope courses, open daily from 09:00. Pick the same course and keep each other honest on the hard bits.
Make something in amber. The workshops on ulica Mariacka cut and set Baltic amber into silver. If a hands-on session is running, search amber workshops on GetYourGuide and make a pair of pieces together, which beats buying one in a shop.
When it rains
The Crane, on a Wednesday afternoon. The medieval Crane on the Motława is free from 13:00 to 17:00 on Wednesday, and 23 PLN regular or 17 PLN reduced on other open days. Inside, the treadwheels that dockworkers once walked to lift cargo are the thing to see, along with an exhibition on the port trade. It is closed on Monday. Details are on nmm.pl .
The Red Hall at the Main Town Hall. The Town Hall on Długa holds the Red Hall, whose gilded ceiling carries 25 allegorical paintings by Izaak van den Blocke from 1608. Entry is 26 PLN regular or 19 PLN reduced, free on Monday and closed on Tuesday. The tower is closed for renovation, so this is an indoor visit only. Artus Court, the merchants’ hall across the square, uses the same pattern of free Monday and closed Tuesday, though it is shut on 8 October and from 30 November to 2 December 2026. Both are listed on muzeumgdansk.pl .
A long lunch at a milk bar. A bar mleczny serves soup and pierogi at cafeteria prices, and a rainy hour over two bowls of żurek costs very little.
The evening
Try a glass of Goldwasser, the herbal liqueur with flakes of gold leaf whose recipe dates from the late 1500s, in a Main Town tavern. Keep drinks inside licensed premises or on terraces, because drinking in the street is illegal in Poland and carries a 100 PLN fine. If promoters on Długa offer free shots in a basement club, keep walking.
The verdict
On a dry day, the tower in the morning and Sopot’s pier in the late afternoon make the best pairing for two. On a wet Wednesday, put the Crane first. On Monday, use the free entry at the Town Hall.

Before you go
Check the forecast the night before and pick the list then, since the Crane’s free window and the Town Hall’s free day fall on different weekdays.
