A “learn to surf in Bali” listing that lumps Kuta and Uluwatu together is selling two unrelated experiences as one. Bali is a single Indonesian province spread across one island, not a resort district, so which town a booking is actually in matters more than the marketing copy suggests.
1. Cooking classes built around a market visit

2. Spa and massage, genuinely tiered
Street-level spas charge roughly IDR 100,000-250,000 an hour; mid-range day spas with air conditioning run IDR 250,000-600,000; five-star resort spas run IDR 800,000-2,500,000 for a 60-90 minute treatment plus 15-21% tax and service. A combined 2-3 hour package (massage, scrub, flower bath) at a mid-range spa typically costs IDR 350,000-900,000, usually less than the same elements booked separately.
3. Surf lessons by coastline, not by brand
Kuta’s gentle beach break is the standard first lesson, roughly $15-22 for a 1.5-2 hour group session. Canggu runs a similar beginner-to-intermediate register around $21-38. The Bukit peninsula’s reef breaks at Uluwatu, Padang Padang, and Bingin are advanced, experienced-surfer waves, never a first-timer’s venue.
4. Yoga and the rice-terrace swing
Ubud’s Yoga Barn runs a full daily drop-in schedule plus multi-day retreats. 5. One planning date worth knowing
Nyepi, the island-wide Day of Silence, falls on 19 March in 2026 and 9 March in 2027, not the 8th, which is the Ogoh-Ogoh parade the evening before. From 6am to 6am the next day the whole island stops, the airport included, so a booking anywhere near that window needs to work around it, not through it.
Verdict: budget one surf lesson and one cooking class over stacking two similar bookings back to back, and set aside the one-time IDR 150,000 tourist levy for day one regardless of what else is on the list.
