Sharm El Sheikh: Where To Stay

Sharm el-Sheikh runs almost entirely on the all-inclusive resort model, so this is a guide to picking the right area rather than chasing a specific hotel brand, none of which is worth naming over the location it sits in.
Five areas ranked
| Area | Vibe | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Naama Bay | Central, walkable, nightlife and dining | First-timers who want everything on foot |
| Sharm el-Maya / Old Town | Local, budget, souk-adjacent | Lower prices, more authentic atmosphere |
| Nabq Bay | ~12km north, big all-inclusives | Guests prioritizing resort amenities over independent exploring |
| Shark’s Bay / Ras Nasrani | Near the airport | Dive-focused stays, house-reef access off the beach |
| Hadaba / Ras Um Sid | Clifftop, south of Naama Bay | Sea views plus easy shore diving |
Naama Bay puts everything within walking distance
Naama Bay is the central resort, restaurant and nightlife hub, roughly a 10-minute drive from both the airport and the Old Market, with the heaviest concentration of international hotels, a mall, casino and seafront promenade. It’s the reflexive first-timer pick, and reasonably so, but pay attention to which resorts actually front real beach versus a marina view, not every hotel calling itself “beachfront” sits on swimmable sand.
Sharm el-Maya / Old Town, for lower prices and local flavor
Sharm el-Maya, the historic Old Town district, is a genuinely different experience from Naama Bay’s resort polish, cheaper Egyptian eateries, the souk, and the renovated Al-Sahaba Mosque. Expect more touts to navigate here than in the resort zone, a fair trade for lower prices and a more authentic feel if that matters more to you than beachfront convenience.
Nabq Bay, for the big all-inclusive experience
Nabq Bay, about 12km north of central Sharm and closer to the airport, is the newer development corridor, dominated by large all-inclusive resorts and anchored by the Soho Square entertainment complex. Because it’s more removed from Naama Bay’s restaurant scene, guests here lean more heavily on their own hotel’s dining, and taxi rides into town run noticeably longer and pricier than from Naama Bay itself.
Shark’s Bay / Ras Nasrani, for diving without the crowds
Shark’s Bay and Ras Nasrani, a northern zone near the airport, are known in the diving community for house-reef access directly off the beach, no boat needed for a shore entry. It’s the pick for a quieter, dive-focused stay close to the airport, though it’s worth confirming specific hotel or reef claims with a current operator before booking on that basis alone.
Hadaba / Ras Um Sid, for the view and an easy reef
Hadaba, the clifftop district south of Naama Bay, sits above Sharm’s souk and near one of the area’s better easy shore-diving spots, below the Ras Um Sid lighthouse. It suits travelers who want dramatic sea views and a well-regarded house reef at a slight remove from the main nightlife strip.
Pick by what you’re actually doing, not by habit
Naama Bay for first-timers who want restaurants and nightlife on foot, Sharm el-Maya for budget and local atmosphere, Nabq Bay for a big all-inclusive resort experience, Shark’s Bay for house-reef diving near the airport, Hadaba for views plus an easy shore reef. All five sit within Sharm’s compact, taxi-connected resort strip, so don’t over-optimize for proximity between areas at the expense of picking the vibe you actually want.
For the fuller trip plan around wherever you land, see our Sharm el-Sheikh guide and where to eat , which pairs well with a Sharm el-Maya or Naama Bay base specifically. Check current rates in Sharm el-Sheikh on Booking.com before assuming Naama Bay is your only option.
One concrete move: if diving is the actual reason for the trip, book Shark’s Bay or Hadaba over Naama Bay. You lose a little nightlife convenience and gain a shore-entry reef steps from your room instead of a boat transfer every morning.
