Romantic Tallinn: Viewpoints and Candlelight
Romantic Tallinn
Stone lanes, lamplit courtyards and a skyline of spires do most of the work here. A couple needs only a decent pair of shoes, since the best romantic moments in Tallinn are free or cost the price of a meal.
Sunset on Toompea
Walk up to the Kohtuotsa platform on Toompea Hill at the end of the day. Red roofs, church spires and the Baltic fill the view, and the wall there is known for its “The times we had” message. The nearby Patkuli platform looks over a different corner of the Old Town. Both are free and open at any hour.
A candlelit dinner
Olde Hansa, in the Old Town, serves a candlelit medieval banquet with game dishes and musicians. Meal prices run roughly €38 to €65 per person, so treat it as a one-off evening out, and book a table ahead. The appeal is the setting; for a quieter menu, look at the Kalamaja and Telliskivi districts. For a guided evening instead, GetYourGuide lists options after dark.
Kadriorg Park
The baroque palace gardens, rose terraces and swan pond are free to stroll, and the palace houses the Kadriorg Art Museum , at €15 per adult. Walk on toward the sea for the Pirita promenade, which runs about 2 km along the water and suits a slow evening walk.
Noblessner seafront
The old submarine shipyard has been turned into a seafront district, and the Põhjala Tap Room there pours Estonian craft beer. It makes a relaxed alternative to the crowds of the Old Town, and the harbour is lovely at dusk.
St Olaf’s tower
Climb the 258 steps together for the widest view of the old roofs. The tower costs €10 or €5 and is open daily from 1 April to 31 October, 10 to 18. Details are at oleviste.ee .
Winter evenings
From 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, the Christmas market in Town Hall Square sells mulled wine, gingerbread and wool mittens under a huge spruce. A sauna session is a good Estonian way to warm up afterwards, and the birch-whisk ritual is called vihtlemine.
Where to stay
Staying inside the Old Town puts everything above on foot. Compare hotels on Booking.com and look for lanes away from the main square.
Verdict
A sunset on Toompea followed by dinner in the Old Town is the strongest single evening. See the 2-day Tallinn itinerary for a full schedule.
Tip: reserve dinner for the hour after sunset and go up to the viewpoint beforehand.
