Sleep on a ship
The SS Rotterdam on Katendrecht is an ocean liner that is now a hotel and museum. Its Captains Lounge is open every day from early morning until late evening. Tours run between 10:00 and 17:00 and make a good daytime add-on, and the Uitwaaien & Zwaaien tour of the decks and bridge is €13.45 per adult.
Hotel New York
Hotel New York at Koninginnenhoofd 1 occupies the former Holland America Line headquarters on the tip of Wilhelminapier. Facing it across the water are the Erasmusbrug and the towers of Kop van Zuid.
Walks at golden hour
- Delfshaven is the harbour quarter that escaped the 1940 bombing, with old canals, the Pilgrim Fathers church and the city brewery Stadsbrouwerij De Pelgrim at Aelbrechtskolk 12.
- Veerhaven in the Scheepvaartkwartier has old wooden ships and merchants’ houses, and it connects to the Het Park green space.
- Kralingse Plas has woods around a large lake, ideal for a sunset stroll or a canoe from a local rental that asks for a swimming certificate.
Food together
The Fenix Food Factory at Nico Koomanskade 1025 on Katendrecht has local makers, including a cheesemaker, and the Kaapse Fenix taproom is open from 12:00 Tuesday to Sunday, with later closing on Friday and Saturday. The Markthal is good for a long lunch.
