Romantic Bucharest: Spa, Concert and Courtyard
Bucharest flirts with its visitors in the evening. The grand Belle Époque avenues light up, the old inns fill their courtyards and an orchestra tunes under a gilded dome. A couple needs four things here: a long soak, a concert, a candlelit dinner and one slow walk. Everything is priced in lei (RON), roughly 5.3 to the euro.
A thermal afternoon
At Therme București in Balotești, the Palm and Elysium zones are adult-oriented, so there are no slide queues. The Palm centres on a hall of real palm trees with mineral pools and swim-up cocktail bars. Elysium adds themed saunas and panoramic pools. Adult prices rise with the time you stay: The Palm is roughly 102 to 187 lei, and Elysium roughly 132 to 217 lei, depending on duration and whether it is a weekday. Zones nest, so Elysium includes The Palm. Take a robe, or rent one. Browse the tariff on therme.ro , and go on a weekday for a quieter pool.
An evening at the Athenaeum
The Romanian Athenaeum, opened in 1888, is a circular hall under a 41-metre dome, wrapped by a 75-metre fresco of Romanian history. The George Enescu Philharmonic plays here, with tickets from about 30 lei, and the box office opens Tuesday to Friday 12:00 to 19:00. Dress up, because the audience does. If no concert fits your dates, a daytime visit outside rehearsal hours is about 15 lei.
Dinner in a courtyard
Hanul lui Manuc, built in 1808, is the oldest operating inn in the capital, a two-storey wooden caravanserai around a cobbled courtyard. Order a bottle of Fetească Neagră, the local red, and a grill platter. Reserve a courtyard table in advance and ask for one under the lanterns.
A slow stroll
Start at Stavropoleos Church, a tiny 1724 Brâncovenesc chapel with a carved porch and a quiet courtyard, free to enter. Walk up Calea Victoriei with a scoop from one of the gelato shops, then continue to Cișmigiu Gardens, where rowing boats drift across a willow-fringed lake when the season allows. Pause in the Cărturești Carusel bookshop for its spiral galleries, set in a former bank.
A day in the mountains
For one night away, take the train to Sinaia, about 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 35 from Gara de Nord. Peleș Castle costs 100 lei for adults and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 2 November to 1 December 2026. Book timed tickets at bilete.peles.ro . Pick a hotel on Booking.com or stay in the capital and return by evening.
Getting around
A single metro ticket is 7 lei and a 24-hour pass is 18 lei, per metrorex.ro . For a late ride back from dinner, use Bolt or Uber rather than a street cab.
The verdict
If you only have one evening, choose the concert and dinner. If you have two, add the spa. See the Bucharest overview for hotels and the two-day itinerary for timings. Tip: book the Hanul lui Manuc table first, then pick a concert on the same night.
