Phuket Multi-Day Trips: Islands and Lakes
What multi-day travel looks like here
Phuket does not have a set multi-day tour circuit of its own. What exists are overnight extensions by sea or road to nearby islands, a lake in a national park and the Khao Lak coast. Most are independent trips, and ferries and speedboats are cancelled in monsoon weather, so treat every fare and timetable below as a rough guide and check it with the operator.
Koh Yao Noi and Phang Nga Bay
Boats run from Bang Rong pier on Phuket to Manoh pier on Koh Yao Noi in about 30 to 40 minutes. Fares are about 400 to 550 THB, and the island sits inside Phang Nga Bay. It makes a quiet overnight stay compared with the main beaches.
Phi Phi Don and Railay
Ferries to Tonsai on Phi Phi Don leave Rassada pier. The fastest crossing takes about an hour, and a standard ferry seat costs about 500 to 700 THB. Speedboats run about 750 to 850 THB and the trip takes 1 to 2 hours. Visit Thailand Today, updated on 6 October 2026, lists the Phi Phi Cruiser and Andaman Wave Master sailing at about 08:30 and 13:30, so confirm current times. From Phi Phi, boats reach Railay in about 40 to 60 minutes. Railay is in Krabi province, not Phuket, so treat it as the start of a different stay.
Khao Sok and Cheow Lan Lake
Khao Sok is about 150 km from Phuket, 2.5 to 3.5 hours by road. Many visitors stay overnight on raft houses on Cheow Lan Lake, and 2026 guides name 500 Rai Floating Resort and Panvaree Resort. Prices and availability are unconfirmed, so ask each resort directly. Park fees are about 200 THB for adults and 100 THB for children at the headquarters area, with the lake area charged separately at about 300 THB and 150 THB. Minivan travellers change to a songthaew for the last 13 km, which costs about 600 THB per vehicle. The park listing shows both fee sets.
Khao Lak and the Similan Islands
Khao Lak is the realistic base for the Similan Islands, and liveaboards and Khao Lak stays work only from mid-October to mid-May. The 2026-27 season opened on 15 October 2026. The park charges about 500 THB for adults, uses e-tickets only and applies a daily quota. Overnight stays on the islands are not allowed, so a liveaboard or a mainland hotel is the way to stay near them. The Similan park page lists the season.
Planning around the sea
Sea crossings are hard on backs and in pregnancy, so ask the operator before a rough-weather booking. If you are staying more than a few days, plan your entry as well. Visa-exempt tourist stays are 30 days since 15 September 2026, with one in-country extension of up to 30 days usually possible at an immigration office. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and due within 3 days before arrival, at tdac.immigration.go.th .
For a shorter plan that stays on the island, the 3-day Phuket itinerary fits the main sights into a long weekend.
