Family Days Out in Ha Long
Ha Long works for families when you mix a boat trip with the theme parks, the beach and the museum, and keep a few safety rules in mind. Prices are in Vietnamese dong (VND), at roughly 26,000 per US dollar, and the park prices below are approximate.
Dragon Park and the water park
Both are part of Sun World Ha Long in Bai Chay.
- Dragon Park reopened on 13 March 2026. Entry is about 150,000 VND (roughly $6). It is closed Monday to Thursday, open on Friday from about 13:00 to 17:00, and open Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00.
- The water park reopened on 12 April 2026, with tickets also about 150,000 VND. It is seasonal, so it is usually closed in winter.
Check sunworld.vn for the current calendar, because opening days change.
Queen Cable Car and Ba Deo hill
The Queen Cable Car crosses the strait to Ba Deo hill in about 2.2 km. The round trip costs about 380,000 VND for an adult and about 280,000 VND for a child between 1 m and 1.4 m. It includes the Sun Wheel, the Samurai slide, a wax museum and Kidoland. The car runs 14:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and from 09:00 to 20:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
Quang Ninh Museum
The black glass museum in Hon Gai charges 10,000 VND for children, 20,000 VND for students and 40,000 VND for adults. It opens 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00. Check whether it is closed on Monday. Outside stands a large block of anthracite coal that weighs 28 tonnes. It makes a short, cool stop on a hot day.
Beaches
Bai Chay beach is free and about 3.5 km long, with gentle water. Do not rely on lifeguard cover, and keep young children within arm’s reach in the water. On the bay, Ti Top has a golden crescent beach, but the climb to the viewpoint is about 400 steps and is not suitable for a stroller. The water there is cloudy and busy with boats.
Boats, caves and safety
- Children under 1.2 m or under 7 pay no bay sightseeing fee, and children from 7 to under 16 get 20 percent off.
- Life jackets are required on kayaks and bamboo boats for the whole session, so ask for child sizes before you set off.
- The steps at Sung Sot, Thien Cung and Ti Top are steep and slippery when wet. Carry babies in a front or back carrier.
- Monkey Island near Cat Ba is home to macaques. They bite, and a bite carries a real risk of infection. Keep children close, hide food and never let them touch the animals.
- Soi Sim beach is closed to visitors, so do not plan a swim there.
The UK Foreign Office advises you to consider safety standards carefully before any overnight boat trip. A day cruise is simpler with small children, since the fee covers 06:30 to 18:30 and boats return to port by 20:00 in summer and 19:00 in winter. Typhoon warnings halt sailings at short notice.
