Krabi Group Trips: Charters, Climbs, Feasts
Travel to Krabi as a group of four or more and the arithmetic changes. Per-seat tours that make sense for a couple start to look expensive, while private boats and drivers suddenly look cheap. Plan around that, and around the fact that not everyone in a group wants the same day.
Charter the boat instead of buying seats
The shared Four Islands longtail trip costs about ฿800 to ฿1,200 per person, usually with a lunch box and snorkel gear included. For a group of 6, that is ฿4,800 to ฿7,200. A private longtail for the day costs about ฿2,500 to ฿4,500 in total for up to 6 people, and you set the route and the timing yourselves. Verdict: for any group of four or more, the charter is the better buy. Bring your own lunch and masks, or agree on them with the boatman first. National park fees are charged per person on top either way, and the island parks’ rules are listed by Thai National Parks . Compare private longtail options on GetYourGuide to see what each operator includes.
A Railay day for mixed abilities
Railay works well for groups that cannot agree, because everything is on foot once you land. The shared longtail from Ao Nang costs ฿100 each and leaves once eight passengers are aboard, so a group of that size fills a boat on its own. Climbers can book a half-day beginner course at about ฿1,000 to ฿1,500 each, while the rest walk to Phra Nang Beach or pay about ฿100 for the lit walkway of Diamond Cave. Meet for lunch, then swap.
Getting a group around
Songthaews between Krabi Town and Ao Nang cost about ฿60 per person and run every 15 to 20 minutes, which is fine for small groups with light bags. For short hops along the Ao Nang strip, tuk-tuks charge a flat ฿80 to ฿100. For a full inland day to the Hot Springs Waterfall, Emerald Pool and Khao Phanom Bencha National Park , a car or van with a driver split several ways is usually cheaper and more comfortable than a packaged tour. Park gates take cash only.
Classes and evenings
A southern Thai cooking class is one of the best group activities in the province, because everyone cooks their own dishes and you eat together at the end. Many classes start with a visit to a local market. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, the Krabi Town walking street on Maharaj Soi 8 runs from 17:00 to 22:00, with dozens of food stalls and live music, so a group can graze for ฿50 to ฿100 a dish without anyone having to agree on a restaurant. In Ao Nang, a seafood dinner on the waterfront costs roughly ฿700 to ฿1,400 per couple.
Where to stay
Groups usually do best in Ao Nang, which is the hub for boats and tour pickups, in a villa or a cluster of rooms near the beach. You can search Ao Nang stays on Booking.com and filter for apartments and villas.
Safety in numbers
Count life jackets before any boat leaves, and refuse a boat that looks overloaded, since rough seas and overcrowding cause most accidents. The monsoon from May to October can cancel trips at short notice. The UK government safety advice for Thailand also warns against leaving a passport as a deposit on rented scooters or jet skis.

Tip: agree a group kitty in baht cash at the start of each day, because longtails, songthaews and park gates all expect small notes.
