Jaipur Activities: Free to INR 1,000 Tickets
Some of the best hours in Jaipur cost nothing at all: the arcaded bazaars of the old city, the Hawa Mahal facade from the street, and the lake at dusk. Paid sights then stack up in tiers, and knowing the tiers before you reach the ticket window saves both money and temper.
What costs nothing
- The old-city bazaars. Bapu Bazaar, Johari Bazaar and Tripolia Bazaar run under terracotta-painted arcades. Only the walled old city is painted pink, a colour ordered by municipal decree in 1877, so the rest of modern Jaipur looks like any other Indian city.
- Hawa Mahal from outside. Stand at Badi Chaupar and take in the 953 small windows of the 1799 facade without paying anything.
- Jal Mahal at dusk. The Water Palace sits in Man Sagar Lake against the Aravalli hills. Visitors watch from the promenade on Amer Road, and the palace itself is a view only.
- Patrika Gate. The painted gateway at Jawahar Circle opened in 2016, and the park around it is free.
- Galta Ji. Entry to the hillside temple complex is free, and a camera donation is requested at the gate. Monkeys live around the temple, so keep food out of sight.
- Govind Dev Ji Temple. The daily morning and evening aarti ceremonies, with live devotional singing, are open to all.
What costs something
Foreign adults pay more than Indian citizens at state-run monuments, and the gap is official policy rather than a scam. Current foreigner prices are about INR 1,000 for Amber Fort and INR 600 each for Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh and Albert Hall. The Pink City Post covers the January 2026 revision.
A composite ticket covers those five sites over two days and costs roughly INR 1,000-1,700, so confirm the figure at the ticket office. Amber, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar alone add up to INR 2,200 at single prices, which makes the composite the clear winner for anyone doing more than two of them. City Palace has its own tiered ticket and sits outside the composite, so never budget one number for it.
Getting up to Amber
Elephant rides up the hill still operate, but animal-welfare groups object and a court case over the working elephants is under way. Walk the ramp through Suraj Pol instead, or take a jeep shuttle, which runs from roughly INR 100 per shared seat. Confirm the rate at the stand.
Splurges and dates
A sunrise hot-air balloon over the Amber valley costs about INR 7,500-15,000 per person, depending on the operator and weather. Guided entries, transfers and workshops can be compared on GetYourGuide , though most of the city works fine on your own. The Jaipur Literature Festival returns on 14-18 January 2027, and rooms near the venue go early; the festival site lists programmes.
Getting around
The Pink Line metro runs only from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar, which puts it a short walk from Hawa Mahal, and no station serves the airport. For the rest, a short auto-rickshaw hop in the centre is INR 50-100 and a full day of auto hire is INR 800-1,200.
Heat and water
Fort ramparts have no shade, and from April to June temperatures reach 40-45C. Plan outdoor sights before 10:30 or after 17:00 and carry sealed bottled water, which costs about INR 20 per litre. Tap water is not safe to drink.
Our sightseeing guide lays the monuments out as a route. Tip: buy the composite ticket at Amber at opening time, then spend the second day on the old city.
