Heidelberg Attraction Tours and Cruises
Heidelberg’s organised attractions fall into four groups: the castle interior tour, the funicular, Neckar cruises and a handful of museum visits. Most are easy to book on the day, though cruises run on a seasonal calendar.
Castle interior tour
A guided tour is the only way to see the state rooms of the Friedrichsbau and Ottheinrichsbau. It costs €6 for adults and €3 reduced on top of the castle ticket, and a family tour is €15. An audioguide adds €6. The ticket itself is €11 adult until 31 December 2026 and €12 from 1 January 2027. Details are on the castle visitor page .
The funicular as a ride
The Heidelberger Bergbahn climbs in two stages, changing at Molkenkur. The lower section goes from Kornmarkt to the castle and Molkenkur, and the upper section continues to the Königstuhl summit. A Panoramaticket covers the whole line and the castle admissions at €17 adult return, while the Königstuhlticket for the upper section alone is €10 return. Fares go up in January 2027. The city has also proposed shutting the line from early October 2027 to the end of March 2028 for bridge repairs, with replacement buses, so check bergbahn-heidelberg.de if you travel that winter.
Boat cruises on the Neckar
Weisse Flotte runs most departures from the Stadthalle pier at Neckarstaden 25. The sightseeing cruise takes 50 minutes and starts from €19 with one drink included. The Green-City cruise, a solar-assisted boat, leaves from a pier beside the Alte Brücke, also 50 minutes from €19. A 90-minute Highlight cruise from €29 has its first listed sailing on 27 March 2027. The Vier-Burgen cruise to Neckarsteinach takes about 1.5 hours each way, with flexible boarding. Boats run mainly from spring to autumn, and in winter there is a 50-minute mulled wine cruise from €22. Check the calendar on weisseflotte.com .
University visits
The Studentenkarzer and University Museum share a combined ticket at €7.50 adult and €5 reduced. The Karzer opens Monday to Saturday from 10:30 to 16:00 from October to May and daily from 10:00 to 18:00 from June to September. It closes from 24 December 2026 to 11 January 2027. Advance booking up to two weeks ahead is recommended through the university.
Evening and city tours
The night watchman walk Auf den Spuren der Nachtwächter starts at the Rathaus entrance on Marktplatz in the evening, usually around 20:00, lasts about 90 minutes and starts from about €16.90. Dates change through the year, so confirm before you plan around it. A Cabrio sightseeing bus is sold at the Hauptbahnhof and by the driver.
Passes
The HeidelbergCARD costs €25 for one day, €36 for two and €40 for four. It bundles the castle ticket with the funicular, free entry to the University Museum and Studentenkarzer, and unlimited VRN travel. See Heidelberg sightseeing for the order to visit things.
