Introduction

Cusco sits at 3,400m, and every day trip below is worth planning around both that altitude and its real distance from the city, since the two don’t always move together.

Machu Picchu as a day trip

Pack layers for all three: mornings run cold at this altitude, afternoons turn strong-sun fast, and a light rain shell earns its space in a daypack even in the dry season between May and October.
