A Romantic Escape to Ica, Peru

Book the wrong bed in Huacachina and a romantic weekend ends at 3 a.m. to a pool party’s bass line through a thin wall. Book the right one, and the same desert delivers vineyard sunsets, private tastings and a night sky with almost no competing light.
Viñas Queirolo: the vineyard escape
Twenty kilometers northeast of Ica in San José de los Molinos, Hotel & Hacienda Viñas Queirolo sets couples in Republican-style suites among 500-plus hectares of vines, with an adults-only pool, sommelier-led barrel room tastings, and a sunset walk to the estate’s vineyard mirador for a glass of chilled Intipalka sparkling wine. Check rooms at Viñas Queirolo directly for current tasting packages.
Hotel Las Dunas
This 4-star resort sits on 14 hectares of private palm gardens in Ica city, with a planetarium and observatory built for couples’ stargazing, a spa doing pisco-oil massages, and Peruvian Paso horse riding on the grounds. See Hotel Las Dunas on Booking.com for current rates and availability.
Private dune glamping
Specialty operators pitch Bedouin-style tents deep in the dunes, well away from the oasis village: Persian carpets, a private chef, chilled Peruvian wine and a campfire under the Southern Cross. It costs more than a hotel room, but it is also the quietest romantic option in the region, with no hostel bar within earshot. A private sunset dune buggy transfer usually gets a couple there and back, distinct from the shared group convoys that run the rest of the day.
Skip the party hostels
Wild Rover and Casa de Arena, both in central Huacachina, run electronic music into the early hours through walls too thin to block it. A romantic weekend booked at either will not feel romantic past 11 p.m. If an evening at a hostel bar is part of your plan regardless, stick to factory-sealed drinks: Peru joined the UK’s expanded methanol-poisoning advisory list in November 2025, and cheap poured spirits at party nights are exactly what that warning is about.
A daytime pairing works well before an evening tasting: our wildlife watching guide covers the Islas Ballestas boat trip couples often combine with a night at one of these estates. Book vineyard stays well ahead during the December-to-March peak season; Viñas Queirolo and Las Dunas both run smaller room counts than the hostel-heavy oasis center, and they sell out first.
