Where Children Do Best
Chișinău is an easy city for a family weekend because the main sights are parks and museums with low entry fees. Prices are in lei (MDL). Plan one indoor stop and one outdoor stop a day, and keep the cellars and the countryside for the older children.
Ethnography and Natural History Museum
The museum on Mihail Kogălniceanu street houses the Deinotherium skeleton, which the museum calls the only complete skeleton of the species in Europe, along with natural history halls. Adults pay 50 MDL, pupils 10 MDL and students 25 MDL. Entry is free on the last Friday of each month. It is closed on Mondays and on the last Wednesday of each month, and it opens 10:00 to 18:00 from April to October and 10:00 to 17:00 from November to March. Hours and prices are on muzeu.md .
Chișinău Zoo
The zoo has about 1,000 animals. Tickets cost about 30 MDL for adults and 5 MDL for children, and children under 7 go in free. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 19:00 and is closed on Mondays. Check prices again before a visit, as the figures come from a May 2026 announcement.
Parks
- Dendrariu Park covers about 78 ha and dates from 1973. Entry is 10 MDL for adults and 5 MDL for pupils and students, parking is 10 MDL, and it opens daily from 8:00 to 21:00. Details are on dendrariu.md .
- Valea Morilor Park has paths, playgrounds and seasonal boat rentals on its lake. The lake is for boats only, and swimming is not advised. Children who like stairs can climb the 218 steps of the Cascade Staircase.
- Central Park has the Alley of Classics and the Pushkin monument, and it makes an easy break between museums.
Wine Estates With Children
Some estates welcome families. Castel Mimi charges 180 MDL for children aged 0 to 12 and 280 MDL for ages 13 to 17, and its restaurant is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Cricova has a child price of about 200 MDL for ages 2 to 12 on partner listings. Mileștii Mici sets child age bands per tour, so ask when you book. The galleries are cool at +12 to +14 C, so bring jackets. Tastings are for adults, so a family trip works best with a driver who does not drink.
Orheiul Vechi
The reserve is 55 km from the city. Bikes are free to bring in, the short trails are easy, and entry is 20 MDL for adults with free entry for toddlers and preschoolers. Stay on marked paths near the cliffs and riverbanks.
Tips for Families
- A ride on the bus or trolleybus costs 7 MDL. There is no metro, so expect some walking.
- Carry small lei notes for tickets and the bus.
- Hold hands in crowded places, because pickpockets work busy streets.
