The romantic version of an Acropolis visit happens after the site has already closed for the day, not inside it.
A free sunset, not a ticketed one
The Acropolis itself closes by roughly 7:30-8pm even at the height of summer, so there’s no evening visit inside the archaeological site. Aegina, about an hour by ferry from Piraeus, or Nafplio, roughly 150km and 2.5 hours by car, both work better as a slow overnight for two than a rushed group day trip, with real evening time in either town rather than a few packed daytime hours. Either is a genuine change of pace from the city’s own crowds and noise, worth the extra night when the schedule allows it.
