Madrid Attraction Tours: Worth It?
Madrid sells guided access to a lot of buildings you can already walk into. The test that works here is whether the guide gets you somewhere the ticket does not: a dressing room, a private salon, the sand of a bullring. By that measure the best value in the city is a 7 EUR tour of a bullring, and the least is an 8 EUR supplement to be walked around a palace you were already inside.

Las Ventas: the 7 EUR that beats everything else
The Museo Taurino is free and capacity-limited; the tour of the bullring plus the museum is 7 EUR for about 50 minutes, with an audio guide in Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese. It takes you through the Puerta de Cuadrillas, the chapel, the infirmary corridor, the callejón and onto the sand. Hours are 10:00 to 19:00 from May to October with last entry 18:15, and 10:00 to 18:00 from November to April with last entry 17:30, and they are published at the bullring’s tour site .
Corridas run here on a season of roughly 22 March to October, with the Feria de San Isidro from 8 May to 7 June 2026 and the Corrida de Beneficencia on 14 June. Prices ladder by sun and shade and by row, from about 25 EUR in the andanada to past 120 EUR near the front and 300 to 400 EUR for barrera at the biggest fights. Readers split hard on whether to attend; the 1929 neo-Mudéjar building is worth the 7 EUR either way.
Is the guided Royal Palace tour worth the supplement?
Not usually. Self-guided is 18 EUR, 9 EUR reduced; the guided version is 26 EUR, 17 EUR reduced, an 8 EUR supplement for a route through state rooms that already carry signage. Put the 8 EUR toward the Gallery of the Royal Collections instead, opened in 2023 at 14 EUR, or take the 24 EUR combined ticket whose Gallery leg stays valid for a further seven days. Two things worth knowing before you pay for either. The Royal Armoury reopened in April 2026 and is included in the standard palace ticket, with about 2,500 pieces on show from a collection of over 7,000, which is a genuine reason to go this year. And the palace is a ceremonial building rather than a home: nobody has lived here since 1931, and Felipe VI is out at the Zarzuela Palace, closed to the public.
The stadium tours, compared honestly
The Bernabéu is the bigger production, and it is priced like one: 25 to 37 EUR self-guided, 46 EUR guided for adults and 35 EUR for children 5 to 14, and 60 to 120 EUR for the premium formats. The 2024 rebuild, around 1.7 billion EUR, added a retractable roof, a 360-degree interior screen and a pitch that drops into the ground, so the building itself is the draw. Match days are a partial closure: dressing rooms and benches shut from noon the day before, while the museum, trophy room and panoramic views stay open.
The Atleti Tour and Museum at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano costs around 20 EUR, runs self-paced, and covers the first-team dressing room, the mixed zone, the tunnel, the benches and the presidential box, plus a 1,400 square metre interactive museum. That is most of the same content for less than half the guided Bernabéu price. The club’s own caveat: from roughly 19 May to early August the pitch comes out for concerts and the route changes, so read the Atleti tour page before booking a summer slot. Palacio de Liria, where the free version is the good version
The House of Alba’s Madrid seat on Calle Princesa, still lived in, with Goya on the walls. Self-guided is 15 EUR, 13.50 EUR reduced; the 90-minute guided tour is 38 EUR and runs in Spanish only, which narrows it sharply for English speakers. Mondays at 10:00 are free, with tickets released the previous Monday at midday on the palace’s own site , two per person, gone in minutes. It is a separate building from the Palacio de Linares at Cibeles, now Casa de América.
Aranjuez and El Escorial: where the ticket is optional
Aranjuez charges 9 EUR for basic palace entry or 13 EUR for the fuller guided visit through the official salons and private rooms, closed Mondays, with the Museo de Falúas Reales and its royal Tagus barges included. The Jardín del Príncipe and the Jardín de la Isla are free and open to everyone, and on a warm day they are the better half of the visit.
El Escorial is 14 EUR, 7 EUR reduced, closed Mondays, and since 2026 it is online-only with no ticket office at all, free windows included. Since 17 February 2026 the entrance has been on the West Façade at the Patio de Reyes. Turning up without a ticket does not work here.
Valle de Cuelgamuros
The Valle de Cuelgamuros, renamed from the Valley of the Fallen in 2022 under the Democratic Memory Law, is Spain’s largest mass grave, holding over 33,000 people moved here after the Civil War, many without their families’ consent. Exhumations began in 2023 and by August 2026 had recovered 602 bodies with 25 identified and returned to families. Franco’s remains left in 2019 and José Antonio Primo de Rivera’s in 2023. Entry is 9 EUR, 4 EUR reduced, closed Mondays; the funicular to the cross is closed indefinitely. The site explains almost nothing about itself, so read first. Book through Patrimonio Nacional rather than a reseller.
Combined coach tours pairing El Escorial with Cuelgamuros, or Segovia with Ávila, exist because the public transport between those pairs is genuinely poor, not because they are cheaper than doing it yourself. Buy them as transport.

Buy the Las Ventas tour on the day and skip the queue theatre entirely. It is the one attraction here where walking up still works.
