Medellin 7 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Seven days is the full circuit: arrival, Comuna 13 and Centro, Metrocable and Arvi, Guatape, a coffee finca, and now two flex days instead of one, Laureles and Envigado. Do not fill the extra day with a second Guatape or a padded museum crawl, Medellin genuinely does not need more sightseeing than this. Shorter? See the 6 day itinerary . Day 1: Arrival and El Poblado orientation
Jose Maria Cordova airport sits in Rionegro, about 20 to 35km out; the flat airport taxi rate runs around 110,000 COP, and the Tunel de Oriente cuts the drive to 20 to 30 minutes outside the 3pm to 7pm crush. Settle in, no altitude adjustment needed at 1,495 meters. An early evening walk through Parque Lleras or Provenza is fine, the dating-app and scopolamine risk the UK’s FCDO names directly concentrates after midnight, not at dinner.
Day 2: Comuna 13 and Plaza Botero
Metro to San Javier for a guided Comuna 13 tour while it is cooler; the escalators are free, the 80,000 to 120,000 COP fee buys the context a solo walk misses. Metro back toward Centro for Plaza Botero, free and open around the clock, plus the Museo de Antioquia (about 18,000 COP for foreign visitors) for the full Botero collection.
Day 3: Metrocable and Parque Arvi
Line K over the hillside comunas, transfer to Line L, into Parque Arvi, a 1,700 hectare reserve reached entirely by cable car. The ride itself is worth it whether or not forest hikes interest you. Verify the Line L fare on Metro de Medellin’s fare page separately, it sits above the standard 3,820 COP Frecuente rate.
Day 4: Guatape and El Penol
About two hours each way, start early. Climb the roughly 700 to 740 step staircase for the reservoir view (entrance 35,000 to 40,000 COP), then walk Guatape’s zocalo-covered streets, a different town from the rock, a rivalry the two places still argue over. Head back before weekend traffic slows the return.
Day 5: Coffee finca and Pueblito Paisa
A coffee finca tour in the wider Antioquia coffee region runs from about 200,000 COP for budget operators up to 1,000,000 COP or more for full-day, small-group versions. Skip it if you do not actually care about coffee, it is a cupping trip, not scenic filler. Pair it with a short stop at Pueblito Paisa, free, 20 to 30 minutes for the viewpoint over the city.
Day 6: Laureles flex day
No headline sight, on purpose. Laureles is cheaper than El Poblado, more residents than tourists, and comparably safe by every current advisory. Walk without an agenda and eat at a comedor for a menu del dia, around 21,460 COP, the real budget benchmark in this city.
Day 7: Envigado and departure
Envigado, just south of El Poblado, is quieter and more residential, a good last morning for a slow coffee and a final look at ordinary Medellin rather than another sight. If your dates land inside Feria de las Flores (31 July to 9 August 2026), let this day absorb whichever free event lines up instead. Build real buffer time for the drive back to Jose Maria Cordova, the same tunnel that gets you into the city in 20 to 30 minutes can run closer to an hour during afternoon traffic.

Do you actually need two flex days on a week-long trip?
Yes, and this is the itinerary most likely to get that wrong by adding a second Guatape or a third museum instead. Two unhurried days across a full week is not wasted time, it is what keeps the demanding days, Comuna 13, Arvi, Guatape, the finca, from blurring into each other by day five.
Is Envigado worth a dedicated day, or just a lunch stop?
For most travelers, a lunch stop is enough, it is a calmer, more residential version of El Poblado without a headline sight of its own. Give it a full day only if you are considering a longer stay in Medellin and want to see whether it suits you better than the more tourist-heavy neighborhoods.
