Medellin 5 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Five days is the first version with room for a coffee finca day, added on top of the four day spine: arrival, Comuna 13 and Centro, Metrocable and Arvi, Guatape. Skip Salento and the Valle de Cocora, that landscape sits five to six hours away in a different department entirely and does not belong in a Medellin-only trip. Need less time? Day 1: Arrival and El Poblado orientation
Jose Maria Cordova airport is in Rionegro, about 20 to 35km out; the flat airport taxi rate is around 110,000 COP, and the Tunel de Oriente gets you into the city in 20 to 30 minutes outside the 3pm to 7pm crush. Settle into El Poblado or Laureles, no altitude adjustment needed at 1,495 meters. An early evening walk through Parque Lleras or Provenza is fine, the dating-app and scopolamine risk documented by the UK’s FCDO concentrates after midnight, not at dinner.
Day 2: Comuna 13 and Plaza Botero
Metro to San Javier for a guided Comuna 13 tour while it is cooler; the escalators are free, the 80,000 to 120,000 COP fee buys context, not access. Metro back toward Centro for Plaza Botero, free and open around the clock, plus the Museo de Antioquia (about 18,000 COP for foreign visitors) if you want the full Botero collection.
Day 3: Metrocable and Parque Arvi
Line K over the hillside comunas, transfer to Line L, and you land in Parque Arvi, a 1,700 hectare reserve reached entirely by cable car. The ride itself is worth doing regardless of whether hiking cloud forest interests you. Verify the Line L fare on Metro de Medellin’s fare page separately, it sits above the standard 3,820 COP Frecuente rate.
Day 4: Guatape and El Penol
About two hours each way, start early. Climb the roughly 700 to 740 step staircase for the reservoir view (entrance 35,000 to 40,000 COP), then walk Guatape’s zocalo-covered streets, a real change of pace from the rock next door. Head back before weekend traffic builds.
Day 5: Coffee finca and Pueblito Paisa
A half or full day coffee finca tour in the wider Antioquia coffee region runs from about 200,000 COP for budget operators up to 1,000,000 COP or more for full-day, small-group versions with better tasting sessions. Skip it if you do not actually drink coffee, this is a genuine cupping trip, not a scenic countryside filler. Pair it with a short stop at Pueblito Paisa, a built replica Antioquian village on Cerro Nutibara, free to enter, 20 to 30 minutes for the viewpoint over the city.

Is a coffee finca tour worth the price on a five day trip?
Only if you actually care about coffee. At 200,000 COP and up it is one of the pricier single days on this itinerary, and the payoff is understanding cupping and processing, not just pretty countryside. If that does not interest you, swap this day for a second look at Laureles or more time in Poblado.
Is Pueblito Paisa worth a special trip?
Not a special trip, no, but worth 20 to 30 minutes tacked onto another day. It is free, quick, and the view over the city is genuinely good, just do not budget more time than that, there is not enough there to fill an afternoon on its own.
Skip the Escobar tour circuit if anyone in your group suggests it as a sixth activity, Comuna 13 already tells the transformation story without the ethics problem attached.
