Day 1: Potsdam and Sanssouci
Take the regional train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Potsdam Hbf, roughly 25 minutes, or ride one stop further to Potsdam Park Sanssouci, which puts you right at the park entrance. Day 2: Sachsenhausen
The RB regional train from Berlin to Oranienburg takes 35 to 45 minutes, then it’s a 20-minute walk or Bus 804 to the Gedenkstätte stop. Fare runs around 4 euros one way, or roughly 10 euros on an ABC day ticket. Entry to the memorial itself is free, with a suggested 3 euro donation, but don’t schedule anything else the same day. This is a former concentration camp, and the exhibitions genuinely need three to four hours to walk through properly, not a rushed hour before catching an afternoon train back. Is two days enough for Potsdam and Sachsenhausen?
Yes, if you keep them on separate days, which this itinerary does. Each site earns a genuine half day on its own terms, and trying to compress both into one day means shortchanging Sachsenhausen specifically, a mistake worth avoiding given what the site actually is. Two focused half-day trips beat one rushed combined day every time.
Do you need to book Sanssouci for a trip this short?
Yes, and the fact that you only have two days makes it more important, not less. The sanssouci+ ticket assigns a fixed 20-minute entry window at purchase, and daily slots are capped. If the window you want is gone by the time you land, your one Potsdam day gets rebuilt around whatever slot is left, so book the moment your dates are fixed.
