Berlin 5 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Five days keeps our 4-day core and adds a fifth day built entirely around nightlife, done honestly rather than around a Berghain door obsession. It’s the first version of this itinerary with real room to decide whether the famous club is worth the gamble. Want a slower, rest-focused sixth day too? See our 6-day plan.
Book these before you go:
- Reichstag dome registration : free but mandatory, opens roughly 3 months ahead
- Museum Island tickets : timed entry sells out on summer weekends
- A Berlin nightlife tour : a lower-stakes way into the club scene than queuing solo
- Your Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain hotel : stay close if nightlife is the point of day 5
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag dome, Tiergarten, Holocaust Memorial |
| 2 | Museum Island, Berlin Wall Memorial, East Side Gallery (short walk) |
| 3 | Alexanderplatz, TV Tower, full East Side Gallery, Friedrichshain evening |
| 4 | Charlottenburg Palace, Kurfürstendamm, Kreuzberg dinner |
| 5 | Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain nightlife, the honest Berghain decision |
Day 1: The government quarter and the Gate
Start at Brandenburg Gate and Pariser Platz before 9am, ahead of the tour groups. Walk to the Reichstag for your registered dome slot. Spend the morning in the Tiergarten, the afternoon at the Holocaust Memorial’s stelae field, free and open 24/7; confirm the underground exhibition has reopened from its early-2026 renovation first. Dinner in Mitte.
Day 2: Museum Island and the real Wall story
Give the morning to Museum Island, the Neues Museum above all since the Pergamon stays closed until at least 2027. A single ticket runs €14, the Museumsinsel-Ticket day pass €24. In the afternoon, skip Checkpoint Charlie’s €18.50 private museum for the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße instead, free, with an actual preserved Wall section. Dinner in Kreuzberg.
Day 3: Alexanderplatz, the TV Tower, and the full Wall
Book a timed Fernsehturm slot; standard advance entry runs roughly €24.50-25.50. Walk the full 1.3km of the East Side Gallery. In the evening, Friedrichshain’s bars around the RAW-Gelände give a first, low-stakes taste of the nightlife scene before day 5 goes deeper.
Day 4: Charlottenburg Palace and the Ku’damm
The charlottenburg+ combined ticket runs €19 adult / €14 reduced; the gardens are free with no ticket needed. Spend the afternoon along the Kurfürstendamm, then head back east for dinner.
Day 5: Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, and the honest Berghain decision
Spend the day in whichever half of Kreuzberg you haven’t seen yet, the alternative SO36 side around Oranienstraße or the calmer Bergmannkiez near Viktoriapark, then decide honestly on Berghain for tonight. Entry runs €25-30 cash at the door, the policy is unpredictable even for regulars, and Saturday midnight gives the worst odds of the week; Sunday morning between 10am and 1pm is calmer and better odds if the timing lines up with your trip.
Is Berghain worth the queue?
Only if getting in matters as much as the music does, and for most visitors it shouldn’t. The rejection rate is real and the wait can run hours with no explanation given either way. Watergate on the Spree or Prinzenbar in Kreuzberg deliver a comparable underground night with none of the rejection risk, and neither requires a backup plan for when the door says no.
Is five days too much time to spend on nightlife alone?
No, because day 5 isn’t only nightlife. The neighborhoods themselves, street art, cafes, and RAW-Gelände’s market stalls fill the daylight hours, and the Berghain decision only occupies the evening. Cut this day first if your trip runs short on time; it’s the one day built around a genuine either-or choice rather than a fixed must-see.
Before you go
An AB day ticket covers everything in this plan for about €11.20 (current fares on visitberlin.de ). Cash still matters more here than in most European capitals, club doors and smaller bars often don’t take cards. For Potsdam, Sachsenhausen, or a Dresden day trip, see our Berlin as a base guide instead of trying to squeeze one into this schedule.
