What to Do in Las Vegas Right Now
Las Vegas activities split cleanly into three tiers: free spectacle you can watch from the sidewalk, ticketed shows worth building an evening around, and a short drive into desert scenery that most Strip visitors never see. All three fit into a normal trip without a car, if you plan the timing.
The Sphere, inside and out
The 366-foot Exosphere at 255 Sands Ave runs its exterior light display free, 24/7, visible from surrounding streets and upper hotel floors. Inside, the resident show is The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, running since August 28, 2025 and intended to run indefinitely; it’s about 75 minutes, recommended for ages 6 and up, with tickets from roughly $118 depending on section and date. Free spectacle on the Strip
The Bellagio Fountains run on the 8.5-acre lake in front of the hotel, free, Monday through Friday 3pm to 7:30pm every 30 minutes and 8pm to midnight every 15 minutes, with earlier weekend starts. The Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, a 14,000-square-foot atrium just past the lobby, is free and open 24/7, with 5 seasonal floral displays a year. The High Roller observation wheel, 550 feet tall on the LINQ Promenade, is ticketed rather than free: daytime cabins run from $28 adult, evening from $40, and a 21-and-over Happy Half Hour cabin with open bar starts around $67.
A day out of the casinos
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area sits about 17 miles west of the Strip, a 25 to 30 minute drive. Between October 1 and May 31, driving the 13-mile Scenic Drive requires a timed-entry reservation booked in advance at recreation.gov for a $2 fee, on top of the $15 per-vehicle entrance fee (waived with an America the Beautiful pass); no reservation is needed June through September or outside 8am to 5pm. Summer hiking there is a real hazard: rock surface temperatures reach 130°F, so plan any trail before 10am and carry at least a gallon of water per person. Shows worth the ticket
Five Cirque du Soleil productions run in Las Vegas year-round: “O” at Bellagio, Mystère at Treasure Island, KÀ at MGM Grand, Michael Jackson ONE at Mandalay Bay, and Mad Apple at New York-New York, with ticket ranges from roughly $65 to $280 depending on the show and seat.
