Romantic Quebec City for Couples
Quebec City suits couples because the old town is walkable, the river views are close, and the best dining rooms sit in historic buildings. Prices below are in Canadian dollars (CAD), and the 14.975% tax is added at the register. Tipping is usually 15% to 20% of the bill before tax.
Where to stay
The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac dominates the skyline and has the 1608 Bar, open from 14:00 to midnight with no reservations, plus Bistro Le SAM for casual meals and the Champlain restaurant for dinner. The Champlain is recommended by the Michelin Guide for 2026 and serves dinner from 17:30. Afternoon tea is also served in the hotel.
The Auberge Saint-Antoine, at 8 rue Saint-Antoine in the Old Port, is a family-owned Relais & Châteaux hotel built on an archaeological site of wharves, batteries and warehouses. About 700 artifacts found during construction are displayed through its rooms and public spaces, which makes it feel more like a museum hotel than a standard luxury stay. Its restaurant, Coteau, serves dinner Tuesday to Saturday in a former maritime warehouse dating to 1822, with produce from a family farm on Île d’Orléans.
Dinners
Le Saint-Amour, at 48 rue Sainte-Ursule, opened in 1978. Its interior courtyard has a glass ceiling about ten metres high and a large tree in the middle, and the Michelin Guide recommended it in spring 2026. It serves dinner only, on a few evenings a week, so reserve and confirm the days.
Aux Anciens Canadiens, at 34 rue Saint-Louis, has served in the Maison Jacquet since 1966. The house dates to the 1670s, and it counts among the oldest houses in Old Quebec. Chez Boulay, at 1110 rue Saint-Jean, cooks Boreal cuisine and was a Michelin Plate listing in 2025. In Saint-Roch, L’Affaire est Ketchup at 46 rue Saint-Joseph Est is a small restaurant with evening seatings by reservation, and its opening days change, so call ahead.
A spa afternoon
Strøm Spa Nordique Vieux-Québec, at 515 boulevard Champlain, offers a thermal circuit of hot and cold baths, Finnish saunas, a eucalyptus steam room and whirlpools, with views toward the river. Booking is required, most sessions are for guests 16 and over, and prices change by package, so look at the spa’s own page before choosing.
Evening walks and crossings
Dufferin Terrace and the Governors’ Promenade are lovely at dusk, and in winter the terrace is lit up beside the ice slides. The Québec-Lévis ferry crosses in about 12 minutes without a reservation, and it gives a view of the old town from the water. In summer, the terrace at Cassis Monna & Filles on Île d’Orléans, at 1225 chemin Royal, is a pleasant stop for a couple on a drive.
River safety
Skip river swimming along the shore, because the tidal currents are strong, and keep to the terraces, the ferry and the spa for time on the water.
Rates and menus change, so look at the Fairmont dining page and Le Saint-Amour’s site before booking. Stays can be compared on Booking.com .
