Romance in Manama

Manama suits couples who want good dining, a seafront setting and a spa break more than nightlife. Most of the best settings are inside hotels and resorts, which are also where couples can relax most freely. Public displays of affection such as kissing or prolonged embraces are not acceptable on the street or near religious sites, so keep it discreet outside private resort areas.

Dinner on Bahrain Bay

The Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay has two restaurants that suit an anniversary: CUT by Wolfgang Puck, and re/Asian Cuisine on the 50th floor. Both have glass walls looking across the Manama skyline, which is lit at night. Reserve ahead and ask for a window table. Alcohol is served in licensed hotel restaurants, and the drink-driving limit is zero, so book a taxi back.

A sunset on a dhow

A wooden dhow can be chartered at Bahrain Bay for a cruise of about two hours at sunset, passing the Bahrain Financial Harbour and the twin towers of the Bahrain World Trade Center, whose wind turbines are lit after dark. Prices vary by boat and group size, so ask for a quote and confirm what is included before you pay. Sailings can be called off at short notice, so keep your evening flexible.

Spa and sea at Zallaq

Zallaq on the west coast is home to the Sofitel Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa, reported as the only dedicated seawater thalassotherapy spa in the Gulf. It offers couples’ seawater treatments, private beach access and sea-facing balconies. The drive from Manama is roughly 35 to 45 minutes.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain, in Seef, is a lagoon resort with seaside villas that have plunge pools, gardens, and secluded dining at La Plage. Five-star rooms in Bahrain run from about BD 80 to 220 or more a night.

An evening in Block 338, Adliya

For something less formal, walk the tree-lined lanes of Block 338, a pedestrian-friendly arts district of galleries, restaurants and cafes. Cafe Lilou is known for its Parisian-style decor and pastries, and Masso serves Southern European farm-to-table dishes in a hotel setting. The address of Masso is uncertain, so confirm it before you set out.

Planning tips

  • The best months for evenings outdoors are November to March. In summer, 40C and high humidity make a sunset cruise or a waterfront walk uncomfortable until after dark.
  • Dress modestly outside the resort, with shoulders and knees covered in the old quarters.
  • The 2027 Bahrain Grand Prix at Sakhir is reported for 12 to 14 March 2027. Check the official calendar before choosing dates.
  • Most visitors use the eVisa; check evisa.gov.bh for the current fee.
