Multi-Day Trips from Manama
Travel advisory, as of October 2026. Bahrain was struck by Iranian missiles and drones from 28 February 2026. A ceasefire has held since 8 April 2026, with reported violations and later drone and cyber incidents. Airspace and the King Fahd Causeway have closed at short notice. Tourism is open, but check the UK FCDO advice , the US State Department advisory , your insurer and your airline before you book, and expect tours and events to change at short notice.
What multi-day travel from Manama looks like
Bahrain is a compact archipelago, with a main island about 50 km long, so there are no overnight touring circuits like those of larger countries. Almost everything is a day trip from a Manama base, and the practical way to spend several days is to stay in one place and fan out. This page sets out a three-day plan and the few real options for sleeping elsewhere.
Overland and cross-border options
There is no land link from Bahrain to the UAE or Ras Al Khaimah. The only road out is the King Fahd Causeway to Saudi Arabia, a border crossing with a toll of SAR 35 per car for each crossing (about BD 3.5). You need a Saudi visa to enter Saudi Arabia, and the causeway has closed at short notice in 2026. Treat it as a route to another country, not a leg of a Bahrain trip.
A three-day plan from a Manama base
Day 1, Manama. Take a morning guided visit at Al Fateh Grand Mosque (reported hours 09:00 to 16:00 Saturday to Thursday; modest dress needed). Spend midday at the Bahrain National Museum, open 09:00 to 20:00 and closed on Tuesdays, then take the shuttle boat to Bu Maher Fort. Walk through Bab Al Bahrain and the souq in the afternoon, and finish with dinner in Block 338, Adliya.
Day 2, archaeology and the south. Visit Qal’at al-Bahrain in the morning; it is closed on Mondays. In the afternoon go to the Dilmun burial mounds and pottery workshops at A’ali, then to the Tree of Life and the Oil Well No. 1 site near Jebel Dukhan in the cooler late afternoon.
Day 3, Muharraq and wildlife. Walk the 3.5 km Pearling Path in the morning, calling at Siyadi House and Sheikh Isa bin Ali House, and try halwa in Muharraq Souq. Visit the Mohammed bin Zayed Nature Reserve in the afternoon (reported 08:00 to 16:00, Saturday to Thursday), then end at Al Jazayer Beach or dine at the Amwaj Islands marina.
Where to sleep
Stay in central Manama or Adliya to reach most sights within 30 to 45 minutes. For a beach and spa break, Zallaq on the west coast has the Sofitel Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa, and The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain is a resort in Seef. Five-star rooms run from about BD 80 to 220 a night. The Hawar Islands have a resort, but you arrange visits through it or a tour operator, and permits may apply.
