Romantic Antalya: Old Town Stays and Sunsets
A romantic base in Kaleiçi
For couples, the strongest choice in Antalya is a night or two inside the old walled town. Kaleiçi is pedestrian, with cobbled lanes, Ottoman houses and views over the old harbour. Two boutique hotels stand out in listings as operating in 2026. Tuvana Hotel, on Karanlık Sokak, occupies 18th-century mansions and has a seasonal pool. RuinAdalia is adults only, spread across five restored Ottoman mansions with 26 rooms and a heated outdoor pool. Recent reviews mention some wear, so read the latest ones before booking. Rates vary a lot by season, and the hot months and the COP31 conference week (9 to 20 November 2026) fill up first.
Sunset spots
- Karaalioğlu Park: a clifftop park beside Kaleiçi with pines, palms and wide views over the Gulf of Antalya toward the Taurus peaks. It is free and open all day.
- Hıdırlık Tower: a Roman tower from about the 1st or 2nd century AD at the edge of the old town, seen from outside for free, with the park cliffs just beside it.
- Side headland: about 76 km east, the temple area at the tip of the peninsula is a classic sunset photo, and the town has seafront restaurants. Tickets for the ancient site are €7, or €10 combined with the museum.
- Olympos Teleferik: the cable car up Mount Tahtalı runs sunrise and sunset sessions on set days from June to October. The summit is at 2,365 m and 15 to 20 °C cooler than the coast. Check dates and prices on the operator’s timetable page .
Evenings out
Kaleiçi’s meyhanes serve meze and fish, often on terraces above the harbour. Fish is sold by weight, so ask the per-kilo price before you order. The old harbour also has short evening boat trips along the cliffs, and some run east to Lower Düden, where you can watch the river fall about 40 m into the sea from the water. Operators change, so compare a few in person.
After dark at Yanartaş
Yanartaş, the Chimaera flames near Çıralı about 80 km south of Antalya, is a hillside of natural gas fires that burn all night. The climb is 30 to 45 minutes up a stone staircase, so take a torch and good shoes. The nesting beach at Çıralı is closed to the public at night in turtle season (in 2026, 20:00 to 08:00 through September), but the Yanartaş hillside is not part of that rule. The entry fee should be confirmed at the gate.
Slow days
Phaselis, about 55 km south-west, pairs ruins with three small harbours among pines, and entry is €10 for foreign adults. A hammam session also works well for two. At a Kaleiçi house such as Sefa Hamam, the usual routine is a rest on the heated marble slab, a scrub with a rough mitt and a foamy soap massage. Confirm the price when you book, because hammam prices vary widely.
Practical tips
- Walk everywhere in Kaleiçi, since cars are restricted and the lanes are uneven.
- Book Kaleiçi rooms early for April to June and September to October, the most pleasant months.
- The Tünektepe cable car is closed, so do not plan a viewpoint around it. Use the park cliffs instead.
- Turkey’s government travel warnings cover the Syrian and Iraqi border strips, far from Antalya.
