The most photographed romantic moment in Porto costs nothing, and the most romantic wine tasting happens in a different town entirely. Neither is what people expect walking in.

Taylor’s, Graham’s, Cálem and Sandeman all sit in Vila Nova de Gaia, a separate municipality from Porto, and several run a seated tasting or blending session as its own product rather than the standard group tour. Getting there and staying nearby
Ribeira makes a natural base for a romantic hotel or guesthouse, close to the river and the walk across to Gaia for the tasting. Spring and autumn bring milder weather and thinner crowds than a hot, busy summer, worth weighing if your dates have any flexibility at all.
