Multi-Day Trips From Seoul by KTX
Seoul Station is the hub, not the destination, for four trips that turn a day out into an overnight: Gyeongju, Busan, Jeonju, and the Gangneung-Sokcho coast.
Gyeongju, two days and one night
KTX from Seoul Station to Singyeongju Station takes about two hours and five minutes, roughly 49,300 won one way, with local buses 50, 51, or 700 covering the last stretch into town. Gyeongju was the capital of the Silla Kingdom for close to a thousand years, and the sites reflect it: day one covers the Daereungwon tomb complex and its Cheonmachong interior, the seventh-century Cheomseongdae observatory, and Donggung Palace with its illuminated Wolji Pond at night. Day two is Bulguksa Temple, with the Dabotap and Seokgatap stone pagodas, and Seokguram Grotto’s granite Buddha facing the East Sea.
Busan, two to three days
KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station runs two hours fifteen minutes to two hours forty, and the fare is a range, roughly 54,400 to 78,700 won standard class depending on train and time, not one flat number; that range widened further after the SRT-KTX fare integration took effect on 1 September 2026, so check letskorail.com for the actual fare on your date rather than quoting an old figure. Once there, day one is Jagalchi Fish Market and Gamcheon Culture Village’s pastel hillside houses; day two is Haeundae Beach, the Blue Line Park coastal train from Mipo to Songjeong, and Haedong Yonggungsa, a temple built directly on the ocean cliffs.
Jeonju, two days and one night
KTX from Yongsan or Seoul Station reaches Jeonju in about an hour thirty-five, around 34,600 won one way. Jeonju Hanok Village holds over 700 preserved traditional houses and anchors the city’s UNESCO City of Gastronomy status; go for bibimbap served in brass bowls, kongnamul gukbap soybean-sprout soup, and the makgeolli alleys, where a pot of rice wine comes with a table of complimentary side dishes.
Gangneung and Sokcho, the east coast
KTX-Eum from Seoul Station or Cheongnyangni reaches Gangneung in one hour fifty minutes to two hours, about 27,600 won, with an intercity bus covering the last hour to Sokcho. Gangneung’s Anmok Beach coffee street and the Ojukheon birthplace site pair with alpine trekking in Seoraksan National Park, where a cable car reaches Gwongeumseong fortress and Sinheungsa Temple sits at the trailhead.
Before you book
None of these four require a car; KTX and the local bus network cover them, though Naver Map or KakaoMap, not Google Maps, are what you want for walking directions once you arrive, since Google’s turn-by-turn is broken across the country by national mapping law.
