Montreal: Festivals to Plan Trips Around

If you’re timing a trip to base out of Montreal, the festival calendar matters twice over: it changes what’s happening in the city, and it can push hotel rates high enough to affect the whole plan. Here’s the 2026 lineup and how it lines up with the day trips around it.

Winter: Igloofest

Igloofest runs January 15 to February 7, an outdoor electronic-music festival that turns the Old Port into a winter party despite the cold. It overlaps with ski season in the Laurentians, so a Montreal-plus-Mont-Tremblant trip works well in this window.

Late winter: Montréal en Lumière and Nuit Blanche

Montréal en Lumière runs February 27 to March 7, with Nuit Blanche, the all-night arts event, on February 28 inside it. This is also sugar-shack season starting to open up, late February through April, so a trip built around this festival can pick up a cabane à sucre day trip on the same visit.

Late May: the F1 Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix runs May 22-24 and is the single biggest hotel-rate spike on the calendar. Book accommodation early if your dates land here, and expect the city core, not the day trips, to absorb most of the crowds.

Summer: Jazz Festival, Just for Laughs, and Osheaga

The Montreal International Jazz Festival runs June 25 to July 4. Just for Laughs, the comedy festival, runs July 15-26. Osheaga, the music festival, runs July 31 to August 2. All three sit inside the best weather window for day trips, meaning the Eastern Townships wine route and the Laurentians’ lake season are both running at the same time as the city’s festival calendar.
