Montreal + Beyond: 6 Day Quebec Trip

Six days keeps our 5-day itinerary (city core, Quebec City, Ottawa, Eastern Townships) and adds Mont-Tremblant and the Laurentians as day six, about ninety minutes north, a day trip or an overnight depending on the season.

Book these before you go
- VIA Rail to Quebec City and Ottawa , both from Gare Centrale.
- A rental car for days 5 and 6, neither the Eastern Townships nor the Laurentians are on the rail network.
Day 1: The Montreal core, fast
Morning: Old Montreal, then Notre-Dame Basilica (about $16 daytime).
Afternoon: Downtown, the RÉSO underground city.
Evening: Dinner, budget the 14.975% sales tax and 18-20% tip.
Day 2: Mount Royal and a food crawl
Morning: Mount Royal, Kondiaronk Belvedere.
Afternoon: The Museum of Fine Arts (about $31, free for 25 and under).
Evening: Fairmount Bagel, St-Viateur Bagel, La Banquise.
Day 3: Quebec City
Morning: VIA Rail or a drive, about three hours, to Old Québec.
Afternoon: The Château Frontenac and the walled city.
Evening: The return trip, about three hours.
Day 4: Ottawa
Morning: VIA Rail, about two hours, to Parliament Hill.
Afternoon: Canada’s capital museums.
Evening: Return to Montreal by rail.
Day 5: The Eastern Townships
Morning: Drive southeast, one to two hours, into wine country.
Afternoon: Magog, Bromont, or Sutton.
Evening: The Balnea spa or the drive back.
Day 6: Mont-Tremblant and the Laurentians
Morning: Drive north, about ninety minutes, into the Laurentians.
Afternoon: Mont-Tremblant’s village and mountain, skiing in winter, hiking and lake time the rest of the year. This is close enough to do as a day trip, but it’s also the one destination on this list worth an overnight if you have a spare night to spend.
Evening: Either stay over in the village, or make the drive back to Montreal for a last dinner in the city.
Is 6 days enough for this whole route?
Six days covers city, Quebec City, Ottawa, wine country, and the mountains, but four of those days involve real drive or rail time. If you’re finding the pace rushed, Mont-Tremblant is the easiest day to convert into an overnight stay instead. Our 7-day itinerary adds Trois-Rivières as a seventh day rather than stretching this one further.
