Miami Tours: Everglades, Bay and Art Deco
Miami’s best organized tours cover four things: the Everglades, Biscayne Bay, the Art Deco district and the food neighborhoods. Prices below are the published tiers in US dollars. Confirm them and the departure times on each operator’s page, because dates and rates change by season.
Shark Valley tram tour, Everglades
Shark Valley is about 30 miles west of Miami on US-41 (36000 SW 8th St). The 15-mile loop is run by a concessioner, Shark Valley Tram Tours, and takes about 2 hours with a narrated commentary and a stop at a 45-foot observation tower at the halfway point. Fares are $36 adult, $27 senior (62+) and $19 child (3 to 12), on top of park entry. Reservations are advised from November to April, and fewer trams run from May to December. Book at Shark Valley Tram Tours or by phone at 305-221-8455.
Everglades National Park charges $35 per private vehicle for 7 days. Non-US residents aged 16 and over pay an extra $100 each unless they hold an annual or America the Beautiful pass. Shark Valley takes cards only, and the parking lot often fills by 10 am in peak season. Ride-share visitors may have trouble finding a ride back, so arrange your return before you go. The National Park Service fee page has the current figures.
Airboat rides
There are no airboats at Shark Valley. The National Park Service names three authorized airboat businesses along US-41, roughly 10 to 20 minutes east of the Shark Valley entrance: Coopertown Airboats (22700 SW 8th St), Gator Park (24050 SW 8th St) and Everglades Safari Park (26700 SW 8th St). Ticket prices change, so ask each one for today’s rate. Airboats are loud, so ask the operator about ear protection. Stay at least 15 feet from any alligator.
Biscayne Bay cruises
The Biscayne National Park Institute runs boat tours from two places. From Dinner Key Marina in Coconut Grove, the Boca Chita Key Heritage Cruise is $83 (about 4 hours), the Stiltsville Guided Tour is $70 (about 2 hours) and the Evening Cruise is $68. From Homestead, the Heritage of Biscayne Cruise is $83 and the Evening Bay Cruise is $65 from November to February. See the Biscayne National Park Institute for departure times.
The US Coast Guard regularly stops unlicensed passenger charters on Biscayne Bay and the Miami River. Before boarding any boat that is not run by a park concessioner, ask to see the captain’s Merchant Mariner Credential, and on larger boats a Certificate of Inspection. Do not board if they cannot show them. The Coast Guard Sector Miami release explains why this matters.
Art Deco walking tour
The Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Art Deco Walking Tour starts at the Welcome Center at 1001 Ocean Drive. It runs daily for about 2 hours over 1.5 miles. Tickets are $50 adult, $40 senior (65+) and $35 youth (13 to 17), and children 12 and under are free. Times are listed on the Art Deco tour page .
Food tours and hop-on buses
Miami Culinary Tours lists a Little Havana Food and Cultural Tour ($69.99, 2.5 hours) and a South Beach Food and Art Deco Tour ($69.99). Its Wynwood Food and Street Art and Design District food tours are $89.99. Check its tour calendar for dates.
Big Bus Miami sells a 24-hour hop-on hop-off ticket from about $45, and a 48-hour ticket with a Millionaire’s Row cruise from about $65. Check the Big Bus Miami ticket page for the current price.
Seabird cruises
The Pelican Harbor Seabird Station (1279 NE 79th St Causeway) is a wildlife rehabilitation center that offers cruises on set dates only, and they sell out. Check the Pelican Harbor site for the current schedule.
Third-party marketplaces list many of these tours side by side: Everglades tours on GetYourGuide and Art Deco walking tours on Viator .
