An earlier version of this list invented a “Día de la Castellana” national holiday that doesn’t exist under that name; Spain’s actual 6 December date is Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución), tied to the 1978 constitution, not a royal death anniversary. Here’s what’s actually on Madrid’s 2026 calendar, with real dates.

San Isidro is worth building a trip around, one caveat
San Isidro Festival, honouring Madrid’s patron saint, runs 7-17 May 2026, with programming intensifying from 13 May and 15 May, the saint’s actual feast day, as the single biggest day. It’s centred on Pradera de San Isidro, Plaza Mayor, Jardines de las Vistillas and Matadero Madrid, and it’s genuinely one of the best free-event windows in the city calendar. One thing worth knowing before you plan around it: a parallel San Isidro bullfighting feria runs at Las Ventas roughly 1 May-14 June 2026. It’s a real part of the tradition, and it’s also an ethically contested one for a lot of visitors, worth deciding on for yourself rather than treating it as an uncomplicated add-on.
Pride’s parade already has a date
Madrid Pride/Orgullo 2026 runs 25 June to 5 July, neighbourhood events in Chueca 25-30 June building into the main festival 1-5 July, with the big parade landing on Saturday 4 July 2026. Madrid hosted WorldPride back in 2017, the first city ever to run WorldPride and EuroPride simultaneously, roughly 2 million visitors over 11 days, so book accommodation early if you’re timing a trip to the parade specifically, hotel rooms around Chueca fill fast for that week. Veranos de la Villa, the free summer festival most visitors miss
Veranos de la Villa runs 7 July to 30 August 2026, roughly 72 events across 14 districts, more than 100 of them free. It’s the one on this list that gets the least attention from English-language guides despite running the longest, a full two months of concerts and performances spread across the city rather than concentrated in one square.
ARCOmadrid, for the art crowd
ARCOmadrid, the city’s contemporary art fair, runs 4-8 March 2026 at IFEMA, open to the public from 15:00 on Friday 6 March. It’s a ticketed trade-and-public event, worth planning a March trip around if contemporary art is the draw, not a free wander-in like most of the rest of this list. Christmas lights: check closer to your trip
The most recently confirmed Christmas lights season ran 22 November 2025 to 6 January 2026, with Cortylandia on El Corte Inglés’s Sol façade running to 5 January. The 2026-27 dates aren’t announced yet as of this writing; expect a similar late-November start, but verify on esmadrid.com closer to your travel dates rather than assuming last year’s calendar repeats exactly.
