Koblenz Attraction Tours: Fortress, Castles
Ticketed visits around Koblenz
Most attractions in and around Koblenz are visited with a timed or guided ticket rather than a booked day tour. This page covers the ones with fixed tariffs and tour formats, and the seasons that decide when each is open.
Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and cable car
The Prussians built Festung Ehrenbreitstein between 1817 and 1828 on a rock 118 metres above the Rhine, and it is among the largest preserved fortresses in Europe. Inside are the Landesmuseum Koblenz, with exhibition stations on photography, technical history, archaeology and the Middle Rhine, and the bronze siege cannon Greif from 1524. The Retirierturm viewing platform looks down on the Deutsches Eck.
Official fortress entry is 10 EUR for an adult and 9 EUR reduced. The combined ticket with one cable car return is 21.90 EUR adult, 20.70 EUR reduced, 11.20 EUR for students and 8.90 EUR for children aged 7 to 17, and under sevens are free. On major event days the prices rise, so check the fortress tariff page before you set out. The fortress is open year-round, with shorter winter hours of about 11:00 to 16:00.
Schloss Stolzenfels guided tour
Karl Friedrich Schinkel rebuilt Stolzenfels between 1836 and 1842 for the Prussian crown prince. The interior is seen only on a continuous guided tour of about 45 to 50 minutes, which runs in German, with a handout for other languages. Tickets are 6 EUR for adults, 5 EUR reduced and 3 EUR for ages 6 to 17, and the reduced rate currently applies to everyone.
Opening is seasonal, 10:00 to 17:00 with last entry at 16:00. From 15 March to 31 October it is open Thursday to Sunday and on holidays, in November on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and in February and early March at weekends and on holidays. It is closed in December and January. The castle is on the left bank, about 5 km south of the centre, reached by bus 670 from the main station and then a walk uphill of about 20 minutes. Details are on the Stolzenfels page .
DB Museum Koblenz
The DB Museum at Schönbornsluster Straße 14 in Lützel is a branch of the German railway museum, set in a historic roundhouse. It shows more than 40 full-size locomotives and carriages, including electric engines of the E 03, E 18 and E 19 classes. In 2026 it opened on Saturdays only, from 5 April to 27 September, 10:00 to 16:00, so it is closed now and the 2027 dates are announced on dbmuseum.de. Buses 5 and 15 stop at Schillkaserne.
Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung
The Bundeswehr technical collection at Mayener Straße 85 holds more than 30,000 exhibits, among them prototype tanks, experimental aircraft and artillery. It is open daily from 09:30 to 16:30 all year, except Good Friday, Christmas and New Year, and it can close at short notice. Check the Bundeswehr page for entry rules before you go.
KD river excursions
Köln-Düsseldorfer day boats call at the Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer landing stage in season and run up the Upper Middle Rhine, with stops such as Boppard and St. Goar. A common plan is to go upstream by boat and return by regional train. The winter timetable from 19 October 2026 to 2 April 2027 has no Koblenz departures, so this is a summer option.
