Geneva With Kids, Lake to Lab
Geneva’s family list is mostly free or under CHF 10, and none of it needs a car.
Two swimming spots, one free
Plage des Eaux-Vives, a two-hectare sand-and-gravel beach on the Left Bank opened in 2019, is free to enter, with showers, grass for a picnic blanket, and a straight-on view of the Jet d’Eau. Genève-Plage at Port-Noir, a paid municipal lido, costs CHF 7 for adults and CHF 3.50 for children (ages 6-15) and adds a 50-meter pool, diving tower, slides and stand-up paddleboard rental. Bains des Pâquis on the Right Bank charges just CHF 2 for adults and CHF 1 for children 6-15 (under 6 free) to swim off its 1872 pier.
Parc animalier du Bois de la Bâtie
Geneva’s real animal park, run by the city and free every day , keeps around 300 indigenous and threatened-species animals, goats, sheep, fallow deer, wild boar, ponies, peacocks and marmots, in a wooded park setting. There’s no big-cat enclosure and no aquarium anywhere in Geneva; the nearest zoo with large animals is Zoo de Servion, 65km away near Lausanne.
CERN Science Gateway
Entry to the exhibition halls is free, and booking a timed slot online up to a month ahead is the easy part; the on-site guided lab tours release two hours before each start time through the CERN app and go first-come, first-served, so arrive with a backup plan if the family doesn’t land one. Tram 18 from Cornavin runs straight there.
Parks with playgrounds
Parc des Bastions has the Reformation Wall’s five-meter statues, giant outdoor chess boards playable on the spot, and open lawns; Parc de la Grange adds a rose garden and an 18th-century villa park on the lake side. Both are free.
St. Pierre Cathedral, for kids who like stairs
The nave is free; climbing the 157 steps of the north and south towers costs CHF 7 adult, CHF 4 for youth aged 7-16, a view most children find worth the legwork.
Chocolate, the easy souvenir
