Toulouse 7 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)

Seven days is our 6-day itinerary (the pink-brick core, both day trips, the aerospace day, and the museum day) with a deliberately lighter final day before departure, Halle de la Machine and a last pass through the market rather than another packed sightseeing day.

Book these before you go
- Toulouse hotel rates : the centre near Place du Capitole is walkable but priciest.
- Let’s Visit Airbus tour: book at manatour.fr , photo ID mandatory.
- Halle de la Machine: the combined “Piste des Géants” ticket runs €20.50, check current show times before your last morning.
Day 1: Capitole to the Garonne, the pink-brick core
Morning: Place du Capitole and the Capitole itself, free. Then Basilica of Saint-Sernin, free nave, €2 for the crypt and ambulatory.
Afternoon: The Jacobins, €5, the “palmier” vault fanning a single column into 22 ribs overhead. Lunch at Marché Victor Hugo.
Evening: Sunset on the Pont Neuf. Dinner built around cassoulet, roughly €20-30.
Day 2: Cité de l’Espace and the Canal du Midi
Morning into afternoon: Cité de l’Espace, a full-scale 55m Ariane 5 replica and two planetariums, €24.50 high season or €21.50 low season.
Evening: The Canal du Midi towpath near the Port de l’Embouchure, free and shaded.
Day 3: Albi, the red-brick UNESCO city
Transport: TER train, about 50 minutes, €15-25 full fare or €8-12 booked ahead.
Morning: Cathédrale Sainte-Cécile, free nave, €6 combined Grand Chœur and treasury.
Afternoon: Musée Toulouse-Lautrec, €10 adult.
Evening: Train back to Toulouse.
Day 4: Carcassonne, the walled citadel
Transport: Direct train, 40 minutes to just over an hour.
Morning into afternoon: The Château Comtal and ramparts, €19.50 low season or €24 high season. Go early.
Evening: Train back, or dinner in the Cité before the return.
Day 5: Aeroscopia and the Airbus assembly line
Morning: The Let’s Visit Airbus tour in Blagnac, €16 adult (€13 reduced), photo ID mandatory, book ahead.
Afternoon: Aeroscopia, two Concordes on the floor, from €13 (combined ticket €26). Reach both via the T1 tram’s Beauzelle-Aéroscopia stop.
Evening: Back in the centre, a lighter dinner.
Day 6: Les Abattoirs and Fondation Bemberg, Saint-Cyprien
Morning: Les Abattoirs, the modern-art museum in a former 1823 slaughterhouse in Saint-Cyprien, €8 full price (€5 Thursday evenings).
Afternoon: Fondation Bemberg, inside the Renaissance Hôtel d’Assézat, €15 adult, a tighter collection than Musée des Augustins.
Evening: Dinner in Saint-Cyprien before heading back across the footbridge.
Day 7: Halle de la Machine and departure
Morning: Halle de la Machine, at the old Montaudran Aéropostale airfield, the combined “Piste des Géants” ticket (€20.50) gets you close to Astérion, the 14m mechanical minotaur; an actual ride costs €5-10 extra and isn’t included.
Afternoon: A last walk through the Japanese Garden in Compans-Caffarelli, free, or a final pass through Marché Victor Hugo for gifts, violet-based sweets and syrups travel well.
Departure: Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, about €8 by shuttle bus from the centre in roughly 20-25 minutes. The T2/Aéroport Express tram is still not confirmed running as of this writing, check current status and build in a buffer either way.
Is a week enough for Toulouse?
A full week covers the pink-brick core, both UNESCO day trips, the full aerospace side of the city, a proper museum day, and a lighter finale, more than most visitors give this city and genuinely justified by how much Toulouse actually packs in.
