Singapore 5 Day Itinerary (No Traps)
The 6 Attractions Destination Pass covering all five Mandai wildlife parks plus one indoor attraction looks like a bargain and gets sold that way. Skip trying to cram it all into a single visit. Pick Night Safari or River Wonders, go properly, and use the day you save on the rest of the city instead. Rushed wildlife parks are worse than skipped ones. Need less time? Drop back to 4 days ; got more, the 6-day version adds a neighbourhood day.
Book these before you go:
- Mandai Night Safari or River Wonders : pick one, online booking beats the gate rate
- Marina Bay Sands SkyPark : book a timed slot, skip the counter queue
- Universal Studios Singapore : SGD 83-86 adult, if Sentosa is on your list
- Your Singapore hotel : book near Marina Bay or Chinatown depending on which days matter most
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Spectra at night |
| 2 | Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam |
| 3 | Sentosa |
| 4 | Singapore Botanic Gardens |
| 5 | Mandai Wildlife Reserve |
Day 1: Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay
MRT in from Changi, about 35 minutes to City Hall via Tanah Merah, SGD 1.50-2.20 on a contactless card. Merlion Park first, quick photo, then Marina Bay Sands SkyPark in daylight, SGD 32 off-peak or 36 peak, booked ahead.
Afternoon at Gardens by the Bay: Supertree Grove and the OCBC Skyway are free and outdoors, the actual photo everyone wants. Cloud Forest and Flower Dome are ticketed, SGD 46 combined, worth it if you’ve got the budget, skippable if not. Evening: Spectra, free, on the waterfront, then dinner at Satay by the Bay.
Day 2: Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam
Chinatown in the morning for the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the shophouse streets. Lunch at Maxwell Food Centre, Tian Tian Hainanese chicken rice specifically, Bib Gourmand-listed, SGD 4-8.
Afternoon in Little India, Tekka Centre and Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, better after dark if you can loop back. Evening in Kampong Glam, Haji Lane and the Sultan Mosque, dinner at a small cafe rather than a sit-down restaurant.
Day 3: Sentosa
Boardwalk from VivoCity is free; everything past it is paid, monorail SGD 4, Universal Studios SGD 83-86, the aquarium (rebranding as Singapore Oceanarium) from around SGD 45 online. Give it the whole day if you go. Fine with kids, optional without them.
Day 4: Botanic Gardens
Singapore Botanic Gardens, UNESCO-listed, free entry, National Orchid Garden inside charges SGD 15 for foreign adults, cheaper online, under-12s free. This is the better use of an afternoon than another lap of Orchard Road, which sits a short MRT ride away if you still want an hour of shopping.
Day 5: Mandai Wildlife Reserve
Pick one park and commit. River Wonders runs SGD 45 adult, 33 child, and covers giant pandas and a river-boat safari through recreated habitats. Night Safari is the more distinctly Singaporean pick, the world’s first nocturnal zoo format, and it’s best done as an evening activity rather than crammed alongside a daytime park.
Is the Mandai Destination Pass worth buying? Only if you’re genuinely spending a full day plus an evening at the reserve. The 2 Attractions Destination Pass runs SGD 88 adult for any two parks; the 6 Attractions Destination Pass, all five wildlife parks plus one indoor attraction in a single day, runs SGD 118 adult, roughly cheaper than paying separately for everything, but only if you actually visit that many. Squeezing it into a half-day stop wastes the discount and the parks both.
Dinner back in the city, or at Satay by the Bay if you’re passing Gardens by the Bay again on the way.
Getting Around and Before You Go
MRT handles all of this; tap a contactless bank card at the gantry, no card purchase needed, though foreign-issued cards carry a SGD 0.60/day admin fee. Grab is the ride-hail app, no Uber here since 2018. Confirm your passport’s visa status against Singapore’s current list before booking, requirements vary by nationality. Tipping isn’t customary, many restaurants add a 10% service charge plus 9% GST already. Heat runs 26-32C year-round with heavy short downpours possible any time, so build air-conditioned breaks into each day and carry a light rain layer regardless of season.
