Singapore 4 Day Itinerary (No Traps)
Four days is enough to hit the icon sights, the old quarters, and Sentosa without rushing. The one call worth making early: skip a second afternoon at Orchard Road’s malls in favour of the Botanic Gardens. Malls look the same everywhere. A UNESCO-listed rainforest garden in the middle of a city doesn’t. Only got two or three days? Drop back to the 2-day or 3-day version; got more, add the 5-day Mandai extension.
Book these before you go:
- Marina Bay Sands SkyPark : book online, skip the counter queue
- Universal Studios Singapore : SGD 83-86 adult, weekday visits cut the queue times noticeably
- Cloud Forest and Flower Dome : SGD 46 combined, the Supertree Grove alone is free
- Your Singapore hotel : book near Marina Bay for day one, or Chinatown if food matters more to you
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Spectra at night |
| 2 | Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam |
| 3 | Sentosa (optional if travelling without kids) |
| 4 | Singapore Botanic Gardens, wrap-up |
Day 1: Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay
Land at Changi, take the MRT into the city, about 35 minutes to City Hall changing at Tanah Merah, roughly SGD 1.50-2.20 on a contactless card. Drop bags, then Merlion Park for the obligatory photo before heading to Marina Bay Sands.
Ride the SkyPark in daylight, SGD 32 off-peak or 36 peak, book ahead to skip the counter queue. In the afternoon, Gardens by the Bay: Supertree Grove and the OCBC Skyway are outdoor and free to wander, and that alone is the postcard shot most visitors are after. Add Cloud Forest and Flower Dome if the budget stretches, combined SGD 46 tourist adult.
Evening: Spectra, the free light-and-water show on the waterfront, then dinner at Satay by the Bay or Lau Pa Sat.
Day 2: Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam
Morning in Chinatown for the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the shophouse streets. Lunch at Maxwell Food Centre, the Tian Tian Hainanese chicken rice stall specifically, Bib Gourmand-listed, SGD 4-8 a plate.
Afternoon in Little India: Tekka Centre, Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, better lit and more atmospheric after dark if you loop back later. Evening in Kampong Glam: Haji Lane’s boutiques, the Sultan Mosque, dinner at one of the small cafes rather than a formal restaurant.
Day 3: Sentosa
Sentosa Boardwalk from VivoCity is free; past that you pay for everything, monorail SGD 4, Universal Studios SGD 83-86, the aquarium (rebranding as Singapore Oceanarium) from around SGD 45 online. Give it the full day if you’re going, it’s a slow island to move around and rushing it defeats the point.
Is Sentosa worth a full day on a 4-day trip? With kids, yes, without question. Without them, it’s honestly the one day on this itinerary to cut first if you’re short on time, since it’s a generic theme-park island bolted onto a far more distinctly Singaporean city. If you skip it, add a second hawker centre crawl or an extra half-day at Mandai Wildlife Reserve instead.
Day 4: Botanic Gardens, Then Whatever’s Left
Morning at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, free entry, though the National Orchid Garden inside it charges SGD 15 for foreign adults, cheaper booked online. Under-12s go free. This beats a repeat trip to Orchard Road for scenery and pace, and it’s a fifteen-minute MRT ride from the same shopping strip if you still want an hour of it afterward.
Spend the afternoon on whatever got skipped: the National Gallery, another hawker centre, or just resting before a flight. Departure from Changi should allow at least three hours before an international flight.
Getting Around and Before You Go
MRT covers nearly everything; tap a contactless bank card at the gantry, no card purchase or top-up needed, though foreign-issued cards carry a SGD 0.60/day admin fee. Grab is the ride-hail app, there’s no Uber, it exited Southeast Asia in 2018. Check your passport against Singapore’s current visa-exemption list rather than assuming, since requirements vary by nationality and change over time. Tipping isn’t customary, many restaurants add a 10% service charge plus 9% GST already. Heat and humidity run 26-32C year-round, so plan air-conditioned breaks between outdoor stretches.
