Maldives 7 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Seven nights is the full week, still one base for most of it, with room for both the core reef days and a real add-on, Fuvahmulah, Addu, or a second local island, depending on where you start.
Day 1
Arrive at Velana International Airport, IMUGA declaration filed ahead, free 30-day visa at immigration. Transfer to your base: speedboat, domestic flight plus speedboat, or seaplane (roughly $290-700+ round trip, daylight-only, roughly 6am-4:30pm). Tip: a week-long stay justifies the farthest atolls, just check your arrival time against the seaplane’s daylight window before booking.
Day 2
A full house reef day, snorkeling or diving off the beach. Tip: ask about your resort’s reef-restoration efforts if the 2024 bleaching event matters to you, some run genuine programs worth supporting.
Day 3
The signature excursion: Hanifaru mantas (Baa Atoll, roughly June-November, snorkel-only, ranger-supervised) or South Ari whale sharks (year-round). Tip: book ahead, especially in the November-April peak.
Day 4
A second water activity: a kandu or wreck dive, or a surf session at Thulusdhoo (roughly March-October). Tip: real dive insurance is non-negotiable, most atolls have no decompression chamber.
Day 5
The far-south add-on: Fuvahmulah’s tiger sharks (400+ resident adults) or Addu/Gan’s equator crossing and WWII RAF-base history plus the British Loyalty wreck. Tip: this usually means an extra domestic flight leg, confirm the connection before committing.
Day 6
A sandbank picnic and sunset dolphin cruise, or, on the budget track, a local-island day, Maafushi or Gulhi, no alcohol, modest dress, a marked bikini beach. Tip: this is the easiest day to swap in a spa afternoon if you’re tired from diving.
Day 7
A relaxed final morning, a last reef swim, then transfer back with real buffer time before departure. Tip: reconfirm your return transfer the night before, a missed boat here means a missed flight.
Book these before you go:
- A Maldives sandbank and snorkel or dive day tour : the real sell-out risk on day 3 and day 6, especially November-April
- A Maafushi or Gulhi guesthouse : the good ones fill first
Real costs: resort track roughly $5,000-12,000+ for six nights all-in, more with a far-south flight leg; Maafushi-based track roughly $600-950 for six nights plus excursions.
