Beirut 3 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Three days is our 2-day Beirut plan , the Corniche, Downtown and the National Museum, plus one genuine day trip to Byblos. Nothing here is a go-now plan; it’s what those three days hold for a traveler whose own government’s advisory has cleared and whose insurance is confirmed. Is it safe to visit Beirut in 2026?
There’s no single honest word for it. The US rates Lebanon at Level 4, its highest risk tier. The UK’s FCDO advises against all travel to the south, the Bekaa, Baalbek-Hermel and Dahieh, and essential travel only everywhere else, including central Beirut and Byblos, where this three-day plan stays. A ceasefire framework is under active negotiation as of mid-July 2026, not finished. Check your own government’s current wording before you book anything.
Day 1: The Corniche and Downtown
Walk the Corniche before 8am, Beirut’s free seafront promenade, out to Raouche for the Pigeon Rocks. By midday, move into Downtown for the Beirut Souks, Martyrs’ Square and the Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque sitting within sight of two Christian cathedrals, a genuine coexistence detail. Dinner downtown, or start Gemmayzeh a day early if the mood strikes.
Day 2: The National Museum and Gemmayzeh
The National Museum of Beirut runs Tuesday through Sunday, roughly 9:30am to 3pm, closed Mondays, verify current hours. Roughly 1,300 objects trace Phoenician, Roman and Byzantine Lebanon, including the Ahiram sarcophagus. Ignore any entrance fee quoted in small LBP figures online, those are stale pre-devaluation numbers, and confirm the real fee at the door.
Spend the afternoon and evening in Gemmayzeh and Mar Mikhael, the district that took the worst of the August 2020 port blast and has, per 2026 reporting, rebuilt into a genuinely busy bar and gallery scene again. Eat here rather than downtown a second time.
Day 3: Byblos, the day trip that isn’t a gamble
Is Byblos actually safe to visit right now? It sits inside Mount Lebanon Governorate’s essential-travel-only tier, the same as central Beirut, not the stricter no-go zones covering the south, the Bekaa and Dahieh. That’s a materially different risk profile from Baalbek, which this itinerary deliberately leaves out.
Byblos is roughly 30-40 minutes north on the coastal highway and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on earth, a UNESCO site tied directly to the alphabet’s origin. Before you fly home
Confirm your onward flight status close to departure; Beirut’s airspace has carried an EASA caution bulletin through much of 2026, and BEY schedules have shifted with little warning more than once this year. Keep small USD bills on hand for the airport taxi, and don’t assume the card machine at the terminal café works.
