7 Days: Helsinki, No Day Trips
Seven days is the whole city, no exceptions, built on the 6-day spine , Senate Square through Katajanokka, plus a seventh finale day that mops up whatever the first six left out. Genuinely tempted to add Porvoo or a Tallinn ferry day here instead? Fair, but that trip lives in our Helsinki day-trips guide ; this one stays inside the city on purpose, all seven days.

Day 2: Suomenlinna, Temppeliaukio, and one sauna
HSL ferry , EUR 3.30 app, half a day on the island. Temppeliaukio , EUR 8. First sauna booked ahead, Löyly or Kotiharjun .

Oodi , free. One museum only, Ateneum , Kiasma or HAM , EUR 20-23.
Day 4: Kallio, Hakaniemi Market, second sauna
Kallio’s bars and Hakaniemi Market Hall, then the sauna you didn’t book on day two.
Day 5: Seurasaari and the Allas Sea Pool
Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, EUR 10, then the Allas Sea Pool, EUR 18 weekday, for a slower, less museum-heavy day.
Day 6: A second art museum, Katajanokka, and Töölö
Whichever of Ateneum, Kiasma or HAM you skipped on day three, EUR 20-23, then Katajanokka’s Uspenski Cathedral (free, the largest Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe) and Töölö’s Finlandia Hall and Olympic Stadium.
Day 7: Kamppi Chapel, a third sauna, and the last market run
Is a full seventh day inside Helsinki actually sustainable, or does it run out of things to do?
It doesn’t run out, but it does shift register. The Kamppi Chapel of Silence , free and almost always empty despite sitting in the city’s busiest square, is worth fifteen minutes for the contrast alone after six days of sightseeing. Pair it with a slow morning rather than another packed schedule; day seven is meant to feel unhurried, not like a checklist you’re racing to clear before a flight.
Use the afternoon for a third sauna round, the Allas Sea Pool again or a walk-up slot at whichever of Löyly or Kotiharjun still has room, then a final pass through the Old Market Hall or Hakaniemi Market Hall for anything you didn’t buy on day one. Both sell reindeer products and smoked fish that travel reasonably well if you’re flying straight home.
After seven days in the city, is Porvoo or Tallinn worth adding as an eighth day?
If you have it, yes, both are genuinely good uses of extra time, Porvoo for the wooden old town about fifty minutes out, the Tallinn ferry for a real second country in half a day each way. Neither belongs inside this itinerary’s seven city-only days; add it as day eight and see our Helsinki day-trips guide for the logistics.
Reconfirm your outbound Ring Rail Line train the night before departure; scheduled maintenance work between Pasila, Huopalahti and Myyrmäki through summer 2026 has reduced frequency on some services, and a missed connection here is the one way to turn a relaxed finale day into an airport sprint.
