4 Days: Helsinki, No Day Trips
Four days keeps the 3-day spine intact, Senate Square, Suomenlinna, Oodi and a museum, and adds a fourth day in Kallio and Hakaniemi for the neighborhood the polished center doesn’t show you. Still no Porvoo or Tallinn ferry, both live in our Helsinki day-trips guide . Got a fifth day? The 5-day plan adds Seurasaari.

Ring Rail Line from Helsinki-Vantaa, 28-33 minutes, EUR 4.40 app or EUR 4.80 contactless. Senate Square before 9am, Cathedral free, then the Old Market Hall for lunch and the Design District in the afternoon.
Day 2: Suomenlinna, Temppeliaukio, and one sauna
HSL ferry to Suomenlinna, EUR 3.30 app or EUR 3.50 contactless, half a day on the island. Temppeliaukio on the way back, EUR 8, thirty minutes. First sauna in the evening, Löyly (EUR 29) or Kotiharjun (EUR 23), booked ahead.
Day 3: Oodi and one art museum
Oodi , free, an hour, then one of Ateneum , Kiasma or HAM , EUR 20-23, not more than one. Afternoon free on the Esplanadi.
Day 4: Kallio, Hakaniemi Market, and the sauna you skipped
Is a fourth day in Kallio actually worth it, or does it repeat day one?
It’s a genuine contrast, not a repeat. Kallio, north of the center, is where locals actually drink and eat without adjusting prices or attitude for visitors, a real change of register after three days of churches and museums. Hakaniemi Market Hall on its edge, reopened in 2023 after renovation, is the honest alternative to the harbor market’s tourist stalls, better produce and reindeer products with fewer crowds.
This is also the day to book the sauna you skipped on day two: Kotiharjun if you did Löyly first, or the reverse. Doing both across the trip, rather than picking one, is the one genuine upgrade a four-day visit affords over a three-day one. If neither slot is free, the Allas Sea Pool by Market Square (EUR 18 weekday) is the swim-first backup.
Do you need a car or any day-trip transport for this plan?
No. Everything across all four days sits inside the HSL zone-A/B network, walkable or a short tram ride, and nothing here requires the rental car or ferry booking that a Porvoo or Tallinn add-on would need.
Kallio’s bars and Hakaniemi’s stalls both run cash-light; a card covers everything, so there’s no reason to carry more euros than a coffee and a snack would need.
