2 Days: Marrakech Plus Ourika Valley

Two days is not enough for both the medina and a real trip out of it, so this plan assumes you have already given the city its own time (our 2-day Marrakech itinerary covers that properly) and treats these two days as pure add-on: one evening trip that fits around a travel day, one full day trip that does not. No Sahara, no Essaouira, nothing that needs a full day of driving each way. Save those for the longer versions of this itinerary.

Day 1: Land, taste the medina, spend the evening in Agafay

Give yourself an hour or two around Jemaa el-Fnaa if your flight lands with daylight left, enough to get oriented before the real city days you will do on another trip; ONMT’s practical Morocco information is worth a read before you land. Then head out to Agafay in the late afternoon: it is rocky, scrubby plateau, not sand dunes, but the camel ride, quad session, and dinner-under-the-stars package runs on a convenient 4pm-to-9:30pm schedule that does not eat into a travel day. Packages run roughly 400-950 MAD per person (about €40-90) depending on the operator and whether a private transfer is included.

Is Agafay worth doing on a trip this short? Yes, specifically because it fits into an evening you would otherwise waste adjusting to the time change. It is not the Sahara, not even close, but as a scenic, low-effort first taste of the desert landscape it earns its slot on a 2-day plan better than anything requiring a full extra day would.

Day 2: Ourika Valley, the easiest real trip out of the city

Ourika sits 40-60km and 60-90 minutes into the High Atlas foothills, close enough that a full-day guided trip still gets you back to Marrakech for dinner. The draw is Setti Fatma’s seven waterfalls, roughly a two-hour round trip hike to the lower falls, plus Berber villages and an argan oil cooperative stop along the way; ONMT’s Atlas region overview covers what else the foothills offer if two days ever becomes a longer trip. Full-day tours with a guide and lunch run roughly 250-850 MAD per person; agree the itinerary before you book since some budget versions skip the waterfall hike entirely and just drive the valley road.

Wear real shoes, the waterfall trail is uneven rock, and bring small MAD notes, since the villages along the way are cash-only for tea, snacks, and the inevitable argan oil sample.
