Where to Stay in Hoi An (By Neighborhood)

Where you stay in Hoi An matters more than in most towns this size, because the Ancient Town core is pedestrianised and small enough that a few hundred metres changes the noise level entirely. Pick the neighborhood first, then the specific room.
Neighborhoods, honestly
Ancient Town. Walk everywhere, including at 11pm after the day-trippers leave, inside the actual UNESCO-listed old town . It’s also the busiest and priciest base, and the one where a lantern-lit street at 9am is a very different street to the same one at 6pm.
An Bang Beach, about 4-5km out. Relaxed, with a real beach on your doorstep and a decent supply of homestays and boutique guesthouses, at the cost of a short Grab or bicycle ride into the old town each day.
Cam Thanh and the rice-paddy fringe. Quieter still, generally boutique or homestay-scale properties among the water-coconut canals, best for a trip built around slow mornings rather than being out the door at dawn for a coupon-booth queue.
Riverside, just outside the pedestrian core. A middle option: still walkable to the Ancient Town, calmer at night than staying inside it.

Rates have been climbing roughly 8-11% a year, and jump further around Tet, 30 April, and Christmas, so book ahead for those windows specifically rather than assuming Hoi An’s off-peak pricing holds year-round.
Should I stay in the Ancient Town or at the beach?
Stay in the Ancient Town if your priority is walking to dinner and the lantern-lit streets without a ride home. Stay at An Bang if you want a genuine beach day built into every morning and don’t mind a short commute into town for sights and food. Neither is the wrong answer; they’re different trips.
