Stavanger Cruises and Island Garden Tours
The most useful tours from Stavanger run on the water or on foot, and most are seasonal. Prices below come from operators’ own pages where stated and are in Norwegian kroner (NOK).
Lysefjord by electric catamaran
Rødne runs a sightseeing cruise from Strandkaien in Vågen into Lysefjord. It lasts 3 to 3.5 hours and costs 890 NOK on the Rødne page , which does not show separate adult and child prices. The boat is a silent electric catamaran. It passes beneath Preikestolen, the cliff that rises 604 metres above the water, and the Hengjanefossen waterfall. Rødne describes its fjord trips from Stavanger as running all year, but the booking page showed no upcoming departures in November, so check the schedule for your dates.
Rødne also sells a day that combines the cruise with the Preikestolen hike (8 to 9 hours, 1,415 NOK) and a winter version (8 to 9 hours, 2,790 NOK). Its Lauvvik to Lysebotn car ferry takes about 2.5 hours one way, from 595 NOK, and is seasonal.
RIB safaris
Rigid inflatable boat trips of about two hours leave from Strandkaien. Operators include Fjord Events and Stavanger RIB, and one operator lists a season from 1 May to 30 September. They are faster and louder than the catamaran, and flotation suits are normally supplied. Whale watching is not part of Lysefjord trips.
Flor og Fjære on Sør-Hidle
Flor og Fjære is a garden island reached by a private boat from Bekhuskaien, a crossing of about 20 minutes each way. The visit includes a guided garden walk and a dinner, and the whole outing takes about five hours. The 2027 season runs from 8 May to 18 September. The site lists 1,990 NOK from Monday to Friday and 2,290 NOK on Saturday, including the tour, dinner and boat. Booking ahead is required, and no Sunday or child price is published.
Street art and city walks
Nuart has held its street art festival in Stavanger since 2001, and walking tours and a self-guided route follow the murals. Tour dates change, so look at nuartfestival.no for the current schedule. Curated street art bus rides have also been run with Kolumbus.
Museum visits that work like tours
A single MUST day ticket at 170 NOK covers every open museum in the Museum Stavanger group on the same day. Children under 18, students and conscripts are free. That makes the Maritime Museum on Nedre Strandgate 17 to 19, IDDIS in Gamle Stavanger and the Stavanger Museum an easy way to fill a wet afternoon. See Museum Stavanger for the branch list.
