Romantic Lima: Clifftop Sunsets and Dinners
Lima suits couples because the best moments are close together: a clifftop park at sunset, a lamp-lit lane in Barranco and a dinner that people book weeks ahead. Prices are in soles (S/).
Sunset at Parque del Amor
The park sits on the Miraflores clifftop. Its mosaic walls carry lines of poetry, and the sculpture El Beso by Victor Delfin shows two lovers embracing. Arrive an hour before sunset and walk along the Malecon, where paths run beside the cliff edge. Larcomar, the shopping and dining centre built into the cliff, is a short walk away for a drink with an ocean view.
An evening in Barranco
Barranco is Lima’s artists’ quarter. Walk to the Puente de los Suspiros, the wooden footbridge from the 19th century, and then down the Bajada de Banos, the path to the sea. The district is livelier after dark, and the streets nearest the bridge fill with people. Keep your phone out of sight at the kerb, since phone snatching is a reported risk, and take an app taxi home instead of walking in dark streets. The Museo Pedro de Osma, at Pedro de Osma 421, shows vice-regal art by day if you want a quieter hour first. Check its fee at the desk.
A tasting menu
Lima is one of the best cities in the Americas for a long dinner. Maido in Miraflores was named best restaurant in the world by the World’s 50 Best list in June 2025, and Central in Barranco builds its menu around Peru’s altitudes and ecosystems. Book either a month or more ahead. Astrid y Gaston in San Isidro, in the Casa Moreyra hacienda on Avenida Paz Soldan, is closed on Mondays according to an undated listing, so confirm it when you book. Tasting menus run at several hundred soles per person, so check prices when you reserve.
The pyramid at night
Huaca Pucllana offers night visits with the pyramid lit. A 2024 press report listed them Wednesday to Sunday from 18:45 to 21:00 at S/ 17, with booking in advance and a guide. The site is closed Tuesday.
For adventurous couples
Tandem paragliding launches from the Miraflores cliffs for flights of about 10 to 15 minutes, and wind decides each day. A walk along the Malecon at dusk costs nothing.
Getting home safely
Use an app taxi or a licensed car, never a street hail. The UK government warns of fake taxis and express kidnapping, particularly for people travelling alone at night. A state of emergency over crime has covered Lima and Callao, so read the UK travel advice for Peru before you go.
